(A/n): This is a sad chapter and I apologize. (Trigger warning(?))

You growled and lunged at the man who, like you expected, wasn't there when you got to him. You heard a smack of skin against skin from behind you and you turned around. Iggy was in fighting stance and the man was cradling his nose with red stained hands.

"How did you-?" The man began to ask but Iggy went to hit him again. The man dodged it and landed a blow to Iggy's stomach. You heard the wind rush out of Iggy's lungs and you jumped on the mans back, wrapping your arms tight around his neck.

"You obviously didn't do enough research." Iggy said. He kicked the man in the kneecap and he crumpled, taking you down with him. You both landed and he clamped onto your arm with his teeth. You screamed out in pain and felt blood running down your arm. Iggy found the mans face and pried open his mouth, his teeth cutting into Iggy's fingers. You drew your arm back, cradling it, and reached into the mans pocket while Iggy struggled to keep him down. You pulled out a syringe which, you hoped, was what he used to put the others to sleep, and plunged the needle into his neck.

He fell limp at once and Iggy stood up, wiping blood from his mouth with the back of his hand, resulting in accidentally smearing more of it across his face. You walked over to him and cleaned his face up a little, and then walked over to the sleeping flock, telling Iggy to tie the man up.

"Ange? Gazzy? Nudge?" You gently smacked their faces hoping it would wake them up. Checking their pulses, You were relieved to feel a steady beat, if a bit slow. You walked over to Max and Fang and untied their arms and legs, handing the rope to Iggy to tie up the man. "Max! Fang! Wake up!" You didn't hesitate so slap them full on, and then duck as they both woke up with a start and lashed out.

"What the-?" Max looked around and saw the children, still on the floor. "Angel! Gazzy! Nudge!" She ran to them but at that moment, the man woke up and started thrashing around in his binds.

"Let me up! Let me up, you freaks!" He screamed.

Fang calmly over to him and placed his foot on the man's neck to keep him still. "You put my family in danger." He said calmly.

"Please!" The man choked out. "Please.. I'm scared.."

Confused, Fang removed his foot. "Why? We aren't going to kill you. Unless you give us a reason." He added.

"You all are so perfect!" The man spat, his face turning from fear to rage. "Even the blind one! What makes you so special!?" He thrashed some more, this time, Fang left him alone. No one said anything. "Let me up! Let me up! I'm going to die, do you hear me? Let me up!"

"What do you mean you're going to die? We said we wouldn't kill you." You told him.

"Perfect little experiments!" He went on, ignoring you. Then, unexpectedly, he started crying. "I don't want to die."

"Wait.." Max walked over to the back of the man and kneeled down, peering at something on the back of his neck. Her face went pale and she stood up.

Fang understood at once, "Oh God.." He said quietly. The man was still crying.

"What? What is it?" You asked as you walked behind the man and looked for whatever Max saw. There, on the back of the mans neck, in green ink, was what looked like a date, set for today. "I don't understand."

"I'm going to die!" The man sobbed. "I didn't ask for this! I didn't ask for any of this!"

"It's...an expiration date..." Max whispered.

The realization dawned on you and you looked down at the man with a mix of horror and pity tearing at your heart. Then all at once, the mans sobs stopped and he lay still.

Max and Fang stood there for a second and then turned to pick the kids up. You were shaking and you jumped as you felt arms wrap around you. You turned and buried your face in Iggy's chest.

Max had succeeded in waking the kids up and they all put on their brave faces when they saw the man and pieced together what must have happened.

Fang searched the rest of the basement, coming back with a laptop covered in stickers. His face was grim. "This is Alex's laptop.. there's no sign of anyone else down here. I think he messaged me pretending to be Alex to get us here."

"How did he get here?" Max asked, and Fang shrugged.

"Who knows. Doesn't matter now, this basement is abandoned. We need to get him out of here."

You all helped carry the man up and out of the school, Fang placing the laptop on the floor in the hallway, hoping it will get back to its owner. You and the flock no longer caring about the cameras. What were they going to do anyways? Send a search team? They'd be long gone at that point.
