Fang and Max looked back at their flock as they went their separate ways. Fang grabbed Max's hand and pulled her down a series of hallways that led to the electrical room.
"How do you even know about this?" Max asked when the door was shut behind them.
"Alex gave directions." Fang explained briefly.
"How can we actually trust this Alex?"
"It's a bit late to be questioning that, isn't it?" Fang said with a crooked smile that made Max's heart flutter.
"Well.. you seem to trust her. and I trust you.."
"You're terrible at questioning things when they should be questioned." Fang pointed out and Max stuck her tongue out at him.
"You're avoiding the question." Max said.
"What question?" Fang asked.
Max glared at him and repeated the question in which she asked how Alex was trustable.
"Uh, ya, well.." Fang rubbed the back of his neck nervously and didn't look at Max.
"Fang." Max said in a warning tone.
"Well..we were..sort of...a....thing....when we all went to school for those couple of months last year..." Fang said, looking at the ground.
Max stared at him, mouth agape. "And that just makes it perfectly reasonable to trust everything she says??"
"Well, it wasn't just--" Fang struggled for the words.
"Wasn't just what, Fang?"
Fang mumbled something and Max sternly asked for him to speak up as if he were a five year old. "Look..it was a year ago! The point is, she is trustworthy, ok?"
"No. Not ok, Fang!" Max crossed her arms over her chest.
Fang attempted to defend himself. "Look, I don't see what the big deal is! It was a year ago!"
Max just turned her back and walked to the corner of the room, slumping down and refusing to look at him, herself now the five year old.
"Max.." Fang sat down next to her. "You can be such a child sometimes."
"Oh yes. Add insult to the injury."
"Max, what is the matter?" Fang asked sincerely.
"You trust a girl after a month of being her boyfriend!"
"I trusted you after one day of knowing you!" Fang pointed out.
"That's because we were test tube buddies. You didn't really have a choice."
"Well, I'm sorry."
After a few minutes, Max said "Apology accepted."
"Thank you!" Fang said, relieved, and took Max's hand in his.
Max looked down at their hands. "I'm worried about the kids. What if someone finds them?"
"I'm sure they've found somewhere to hide." Fang assured her.
"It's a bathroom, Fang! What hiding places are there?"
Fang shrugged. "They're smart kids. They're fine. I promise." Max still looked worried, so Fang leaned over and kissed her. Her face softened as she kissed him back.
