"Maddox Drew," Eli's voice was enough to get Maddox completely awake though just before his phone rang he'd been fast asleep.
"What? What's wrong?" Maddox gasped.
"What's wrong?" Eli hissed. "You tell me, Maddox, didn't I warn you about Adam?"
"Oh," Maddox relaxed. "Yeah, you did."
"You said, oh don't worry, Eli, he's a good person," Eli went on. "And look what happened."
"Listen," Maddox yawned. "Do you know what time it is in Quebec?"
"I don't give a fuck what time it is in Kay-beck," Eli always sounded more southern when he was angry.
"Right, well, I'll be home tomorrow, okay? Can you yell at me then?"
"You're coming home?" Eli's voice softened. "Oh, god, Maddox, I'm so sorry."
"Yeah, I'll see you then, probably around 3 your time."
"I'll be there. What should I bring? Ice cream? Tequila?"
"I don't know, we'll figure it out," Maddox yawned again. "Love you, bye," he mumbled before he hung up.
"He thinks we're breaking up," Brent yawned. "Call him back."
"Shh, just sleep," Maddox insisted, dropping his phone back on the nightstand.
Maddox packed everything when he woke up the next morning. Brent sat on their bed, watching.
"We're good, right?"
"We're amazing," Maddox promised. "I don't want to go, it's work."
"No, I get it," Brent nodded. "I only wish I could come with you. But it's not even two weeks until I get there too."
"I'll be counting down the days," Maddox kissed him. Brent rubbed Maddox's back.
"We have to go."
"Okay," Maddox turned to make sure he had all of his stuff before they left the room.
The band had an interview first thing that morning so Maddox went with them on his way to the airport. He and Cole stayed in a waiting room while the boys were on camera.
"You're really leaving?" Cole looked upset.
"Yeah, I just need to go home for a while," Maddox nodded. He wanted to tell him it was just for work but he wasn't ready to tell everyone about the new album yet.
"Come here," Cole took Maddox's wrist and pulled him outside. There was a little balcony outside the room. Cole lit a cigarette. "You don't need to worry about this, Maddox."
"I disagree."
"You take this shit too seriously," Cole shook his head, blowing smoke away from Maddox.
"I don't know, Cole, I only ever wanted to be friends with Adam. I wasn't a good friend two nights ago."
"Or you were a really good friend," Cole grinned. "Adam and I had a lot of fun last night so maybe you just need to think of it that way."
"Will you ever stop being the creepiest asshole I know?" Maddox laughed.
"It would be so boring if I did," Cole took another drag from his cigarette. "You and Brent, you're good, right?"
"Yeah, we're good," Maddox nodded. "How about you and Adam?"
"Yeah, I can never tell," Cole sighed.
