"Chloe, we're putting your socks on now," Maddox said.
"Baby, baby, baby," Chloe was hitting baby hippo against her bed. "No socksh."
"Yes, Daddy's going to count to three," Maddox warned. Chloe sighed and sat on her bed. She kept smacking baby hippo against the mattress while Maddox put her socks and shoes on for her.
"Okay go," Chloe jumped up when he was done and started running.
"Do you want Daddy to do your hair?" Maddox asked. Chloe stopped at the door to her room and turned around, smiling.
"Yes, peash," Chloe nodded. Every time she did it Maddox knew she'd use that look to get away with murder for the rest of her life. She was only 2 but it was like she knew she looked completely angelic with her big eyes and blonde hair.
Chloe sat in the bathroom while Maddox curled her hair and when Hannah came in for her turn, Chloe watched. She still looked at Hannah like she was everything, following her around and trying to do whatever her big sister was doing.
"I'm ready, time to trade," Brent came in, Colin on his shoulder. Maddox looked up from Hannah's hair and wasn't sure which feeling he wanted to pay attention to first. He'd always loved seeing Brent with a baby and watching him with Colin was amazing. But Brent also looked incredible in a dark purple button down and Maddox was just glad they were surrounded by children or they would never have made it out of the house.
"Okay, here," Maddox finished Hannah's last curl and handed Brent the hairspray before he took Colin and went to get dressed.
There were plenty of times having 3 kids instead of 2 felt like a huge mistake but that morning everything worked out. Colin slept even though Chloe screamed the entire time she was in her car seat. When they got to the church, Clara was already there with Scarlett and Aiden who jumped in to help entertain Chloe.
Brent's whole family was there too and by the time all their family members and friends were sitting down the church was half full. With the regular congregation there too it was completely packed.
"I don't want to curse us, but I haven't heard a peep out of Chloe since she left the car," Brent whispered to Maddox as the priest was giving his sermon.
"She loves Aiden, looks like he and Wes have her busy," Maddox peeked over his shoulder at her.
"Good, maybe we can adopt one of them too," Brent joked and kissed his cheek. "Do you know how amazing you look in this color?"
"We're in church," Maddox scolded. "Shh," he insisted but Brent put his arm around him and Maddox put his head down until he realized he was going to fall asleep that way. He'd never hear the end of it from his family if he was sleeping when the priest asked them to bring Colin up to be baptized.
Colin did scream as the priest baptized him but as soon as he was wrapped up in a blanket again he got quiet. Brent's mother held him for the rest of the service and afterward until they all gathered to take a big family photo.
"Eli, get in here," Justin ordered. Kylie was lining everyone up and made Cindy give Colin back to Brent and Maddox.
"Cole and Adam too," Brent waved them over.
"Sweetie, it's a family picture," Cindy said.
"They're family," Brent insisted.
It took a lot of tries to get everyone looking at the camera and smiling but Maddox was used to posing for pictures so it didn't bother him. He wondered for a second how Brent's family members felt when they had to stand next to the Biebers for pictures like that. It had taken Maddox a long time to understand that his family pictures always came out looking so great because everyone in his family was used to having their picture taken so much.
