We pulled into Kylo's drive way and I quickly exited the car. I didn't want to be stuck in that car with him more than I had to.
I swung my bag over my shoulder and walked towards the door where Kylo was headed as well.
Kylo turned his keys to the left and turned the knob and opened the door.
Kylo walked in with me trailing along.
I walked in and noticed that everything in my house that was usually on the right was now on the left. Like for example, the mantle and the fireplace was now on the left.
"You know it's funny because my house has the exact same house layout as you." I said admiring the beautiful paintings on the wall.
"Follow me." Kylo said jumping up the stairs skipping a step with each stride he took.
We finally made it to Kylo's room and it was much cleaner than I expected. He had a nicely made bed with two bedside tables. One on each side of his bed.
He had a book shelf in the corner of the room and also a window seat. I set my stuff down near the door and looked around the room.
Kylo flopped on his bed and took off his jacket.
Then I saw him glance up at me.
"You know, you can sit like a normal human being." Kylo said hoisting his legs onto the bed.
I walked over to the edge of the bed and sat down carefully. Not wanting to seem weirdly ok with this.
I could feel Kylo's eyes judging me from behind.
"You are the most shyest person I've ever met." He shook his head in disbelief.
I turned my body to look at him.
"So do you want to start on the project?" She asked walking to her bag and grabbing her laptop.
"That's why we're here isn't it." Kylo said as he pulled a book off of his shelf.
----------------------------------------------
After about 40 minutes of searching and sitting in silence, Kylo finally spoke to me.
"Let's go get some food." He said throwing the book he was reading into the corner.
"Ok. What kind of food?" I ask shutting my laptop
"Taco Bell?" He asked again.
"Sure." I said placing my laptop back in my bag.
Kylo raced down stairs and grabbed his keys while I followed behind.
"Let's go." He said opening the door and walking towards the car.
--------------------------------------------
Once we were done with our food we threw our trash away and walked back out to the car.
I got in the passengers side and buckled up.
"Thanks for treating me to Taco Bell." I laughed a little.
"No problem." Kylo laughed as well.
We sat in silence almost the whole way back to Kylo's house.
"Where did you move from?" Kylo asked breaking the silence.
"Connecticut. That's where I was born." I answered looking down.
"Cool. Cool." Kylo said awkwardly as we sat at a stoplight.
"Have you lived in Texas your whole life?" I asked trying to make conversation.
"No actually. My moms job was relocated and that's when we moved down here."
He said tapping his index finger on the steering wheel.
"What does your mom do for a living?" I asked.
"She's an accountant. She hates the job though. She always tells me how her boss is a bitch." He said chuckling a bit.
It was nice to see Kylo smile. He had such a warm smile that always made me feel at home and safe.
Then the light turned green and we were driving down the empty street again.
"What about your parents? What do they do." That question filled my mind with answers to say.
"They're dead." I said trying to make it seem not as sad as it was.
"Rey, I'm--" I cut him off.
"No no it's fine. I get that question a lot actually. I don't mind it. I've gotten used to being alone." I answered. The rest of the ride was silent. Probably because Kylo felt like he had hurt my feelings.
We pulled into his drive way and he turned off the engine. I was about to get out but then Kylo grabbed my wrist.
"Rey. I want you to know that I'm always here for you no matter what." Kylo said making eye contact.
"I know. Thank you." I say then exiting the car.
Once we got inside, his parents still not home yet, I ran upstairs and grabbed my stuff.
"I will see you tomorrow at school Kylo." I say turning the knob.
"Wait Rey. Let me walk you home at least." He says running behind me.
"No you don't have to. It's just down the block." I say pointing down the street.
"No I insist. It's dark out and a pretty girl like you shouldn't be out all alone." He says smirking.
"Ok." I say blushing and walking out the door with kylo trailing along.
Our feet synchronized with every step we took. Left, right, left, right.
"So you like to write?" I asked Kylo, again trying to make conversation.
"Yeah I do actually. I like to write poetry. Like you see this giant emo guy and you think to yourself 'bad grades, no friends, bad home." He says laughing a bit.
"I didn't think that when I saw you." I say looking up at him.
"What did you think when you first saw?" He asked stopping and turning towards me.
"It was a giant blur. I was really thinking anything. Just a black space in my mind and I guess you were supposed to fill that emptiness. Like you were the Van Gogh to my canvas." I say thinking about the time I saw him walk into that office.
"I've never heard anyone think of me like that." He says chuckling and walking in the direction of my house again.
"This is it." I say walking up the drive way and onto the porch.
"So I'll text you tomorrow after school about the project and we can meet up again." He says bouncing on his toes.
"Ok sounds good. Thanks again for taking me to Taco Bell." I say giggling.
"Yeah no problem." He says.
"I got to head in. My grandad is probably asleep by now." I say pointing to the door.
"Oh yeah of course. I'll see you tomorrow." And with that he turns and walks down our driveway.
"See you tomorrow."
