Chapter 26// Think About What You've Done

Rey's POV:
I walked in the house and plopped on my bed. I rested my head on my pillow and closed my eyes.
"What a jackass." I say breathing out slowly.
I roll over and feel around. I just needed to rest my mind. All of a sudden out of blue I feel a plastic rectangle. I look at the mysterious object and see a card.
I look harder at the card and see its Bens license.
He didn't smile in his picture he just stood there staring. His heart full of sorrow and sadness. But now he was happier. Hopefully.
I get my shoes on and walk out the door.
I walk down the sidewalk to Bens house and knock on the door. But when I knock the door opens slowly like it wasn't shut.
I looked in the driveway and only see bens car. His parents were probably out.
I enter the house and inspect the home checking every room for an intruder or something. I didn't find anything so I go upstairs to Bens room. I knock on Bens door but no answer. I open the door and look around the room.
"Ben? You left your license at my house." I say into the empty room. Where was he?
I go over to his nightstand. I put his license on the table and see note on his bed.
"Nature is always lovely, invincible, glad, whatever is done and suffered by her creatures.
All scars she heals, whether in rocks or water or sky or hearts."
What does this mean? Did he just leave his on his bed for me to find or just because he was going somewhere?
No that's not like Ben. He would probably put this in a folder so no one would find it. Unless he wanted me to find it.
I tuck the note into my pocket and leave the house.
I run back to my house and run into my room. I sit down at my desk and turn on my desk light.
I study the note for what feels like forever.
"Whatever is done is suffered by her creatures." I say thinking what that meant.
Was I the "she" in the poem.
I hold the note up to the light. Why did he want me to find this.
Then when I hold the note up to the light it becomes transparent. There is another note on the back of the paper.
"I want you to think about what you have done Rey."
What did he mea-- the park. When Jackson mouth raped me.
He was there! He always told me that he ran in Naboo park on Sunday evenings! Oh my god. I was so blind.
I get up and start to pace.
I pull and tug on my hair till strands started to fall out.
I sit back down and look at the note.
Why did he write this? Did he want me to feel guilty? Like it was my fault? Wait. It was a suicide note. Ben was going to kill himself! But where was he if he wasn't at his house. In the note he was talking about skies. The sky me and Jackson were looking at when he kissed me. He also talked about water! He was at Naboo park on the cliff! But you can't die if you jump off the cliff. People did it all the time and then they land in the water.
I get up and run out of the house.
"Rey! Where are you going?!" I heard Papa yell as I sprinted down the sidewalk.
"Saving a life!" I yell as I turned the corner.
I run all the way to the park and sprinted up the hill to the cliff.
That's where he was. Ben.
I saw him standing looking over the cliff.
"Ben!" I yelled in between breaths.
He turned around slowly and pulled off his hood from his hoodie revealing his face.
"You are smarter than I thought you were." He says emotionless.
"Why did you write that note?!" I yell to him panting.
"Rey. All my life I've been abandoned and left. But know I can leave this god forbidden place." He says pulling a gun out of his jacket.
"Ben. Please. Don't do this. I've lost so many people that if you leave I don't know what I would do." I say tears welling up in my eyes.
"What would you do. You've lost so many people to suicide that you're not affected." He says putting the gun up to his head.
"Ben don't do this! You have a loving mother and father that love you. What will I have to say to them when you're gone?" I say tears staining my face and they fall to the ground. Ben doesn't answer all he does is stare like in his picture. Blank expression but inside his eyes is another realm of hurt and pain. He's seen so much hate and suffering in his life that he doesn't know how to cope with it.
He looks and me and then the ground. He throws the gun over the cliff and we both run into each other's arms.
"I love you Ben."
"I love you too Rey."
