-Ellie's POV-
I stand outside the main building of Duncan high school. It's my first day as a freshman and I am a little terrified. I've been homeschooled all my life so I've never so much as stepped foot in a public school. My family has been going through a hard time lately so my mom had to get a job. And with her at work there was no one to teach us. So here we are now. My brother Nate stands beside me, his expression unreadable. He's a senior so he won't even be here that long. I look at him and ask "Are you nervous?". He's looks at me out of the corner of his eye and says " Not at all" then heads towards the entrance.
I jog a little to catch up with him since he has much longer legs than me. We open up the doors into my new school that I will be in for the next four years. Just four years. That's all I have to make it through. I keep telling myself it'll be fine, that I have friends here, that it won't be that bad. But I am honestly terrified. Ive never been good with people and I feel like I just won't fit in.
"Ellie! Over here!" I hear someone call my name. I look over my shoulder and find Katherine waving at me. I wave back and start walking over there. "Hey Kat!" I look around for her twin sister Kadence. "Where's Kade?"
"Oh she's getting her books. She'll be here in a little bit. The bell is about to ring though. What class do you have first?" I unfold the piece of paper I had in my back pocket with all my classes on it and say "Science." She smiles really big at me and says "Great! That class is with me. Kadence has math though. Well we better get going. Don't want you to be late on your first day!" We start off walking to the class, me following her because I have no idea what I'm doing.
We finally get in the class and sit down as soon as the bell rings. The teacher walks through the door. I take a deep breath. Today is a new chapter in my whole new life. I just have to get through it.
