"You ready to go?"
I ask Timothy at the main entrance. We're about to head to his house for his first study session with me. I'm a little nervous even though I shouldn't be. It's just studying. How can I mess that up?
"As ready as I'll ever be I guess. Do you want to walk or get Nate to give us a ride." He responds.
"Let's get Nate to drive us. Then we can have more time."
I pull out my phone and text Nate to see where he is.
E- hey where are you?
N- just leaving the art building.
E- can you give me and Timothy a ride to his house? Pretty please?
N- sure but why?
E- were just going to study a bit
N- ok.... Sure
E- thx! We're at the main entrance.
N- k be there in a sec
"He'll be here soon." I turn and tell Timothy.
He looks me straight in the eyes and gives a small smile. "Ok. Good."
He's still staring at me. And I'm staring back, lost in his bright, blue eyes. My breathing becomes slightly heavier as time goes on. How long were we like that? I have absolutely no idea.
"Hey guys!" I turn to see who spoke and see the one and only Nate. "Great timing." I think
"Hey Nate." I turn to Timothy. His face is slightly flushed and he's scratching the back of his neck. "Ready to go?"
He doesn't look at me when he says "Yeah. Let's go."
What just happened between us?
The drive to his house is silent. But soon enough we arrived. I hop out of the car and thank Nate for the ride. He drives off then leaving us standing in Timothy's drive way.
"Should we go in?"
He asks.
"Oh yeah. Probably." I chuckle. Gosh I'm so awkward.
He leads me into his home and into the kitchen. I set my bag on the table and start pulling out books.
"Want anything to drink?" He asks.
"I'll take a water please." I respond. He's always such a great host.
"Sure thing." He pulls two water bottles out of the fridge and comes to sit down right next to me. He scoots his chair closer to mine so that they are merely inches apart.
"Thanks." I say as he offers me my water. "Well let's get started."
I open my textbook to the chapter about forces of nature.
"So what do you already know about this? What's one example of a force of nature?" I turn and ask him.
"Umm... I know gravity. That's a pretty easy one." He says.
"Ok good. Now what is gravity?"
I'm really struggling with this. We're so close I can barely breath. At one point he had leaned over onto the table so he could get a better look at the book. That just made it worse.
"It's when something is pulled to the earth?"
"Well yes, but what is the definition of gravity?"
He scratches his neck again.
"I guess I don't know. I really should though. This is the easiest thing in here!"
"Hey, don't beat yourself up." I place my hand on his arm. "There's nothing bad about not knowing this. That's what I'm here for. For you to learn it. Here we'll look it up."
