My darned alarm clock wakes me up the next morning. It's 6:00. Ugh. I didn't get much sleep last night. It was probably 2:30 by the time I was asleep. And that little incident with my dad didn't help. I slam my hand on the off button and groggily get out of bed and head to my closet. I search and search but I can't find anything to wear in my closet full of clothes. "Why does this always seem to happen?" I ask myself out loud. I finally decide on a sweatshirt from my dance academy and some white wash skinny jeans.
Putting on my old hoodie reminds me of all my memories of my friends and goofing off at dance class. Classes will start again soon much to my appeal. Dancing has always helped me get away from everything. I don't have to worry about schoolwork or my parents. I just dance.
I slip out of my door trying to be as quiet as possible just in case Nate was still sleeping. I am almost to the stairs when I hear right behind me "Morning Ell!". I jump and spin around to see Nate right behind me.
"Nate! Don't scare me like that! Gosh!"
He gives me a sly grin.
"Sorry. But it's funny seeing you scared."
"No it's not."
He just grins.
I playfully punch his shoulder and go downstairs to eat breakfast.-At School-
"Are you sure you're up to this?"
I stare out the window at the school building. I can't avoid it or the people inside forever. I might as well face my fears head on.
"Yeah. I'm sure. Might as well get it over with."
"Ok. Have a good day."
I open the car door and head straight to the main entrance. As soon as I walk in I'm greeted by Timothy's face.
"Hey Ellie!"
I put on a fake smile. I can't hurt his feelings. He may not like me but I still care for him. I still love him even if it's just as a friend.
"Hey Timothy. How are you?""I'm doing all right. How about yourself?"
I hesitate for a split second before answering.
"I'm doing fine."
He gets a strange look on his face. He probably noticed my slight hesitation. We grew up together, he knows me too well.
"Are you sure? I didn't see you at all yesterday. And you seem worried. You can tell me if anything a bothering you ya know."Ah there it is. His nice charm. One of the things I love about him. But right now I wish he would just leave the still sore subject alone.
"No I'm alright. I just felt a little sick yesterday. I'm fine now. All good. Just fine."
Ugh. Great cover up Ellie.
"Ok." He says hesitantly. "If you say so.""Well I've got to get to science. See ya later!"
I hurry and walk away trying as quick as possible to get away form the conversation.
"Hey wait up! I've got science up first too. Mind if I walk with you?"
I internally sigh. Well I might as well. There's no stopping him anyways.
"Sure I guess."We walk in silence until we reach the classroom. I reach my hand out to open the door but he puts his hand there first. My hand brushes with his. I feel butterflies. No. Stop. Stop leading yourself on. Get over him Ellie. Now.
"Maybe you'd want to come over later to study? I mean we have a big test and it's always better to have a partner right?"
I can't study with him. I need time to let him go. But I so desperately want to. But no I can't. Just tell him no. Simple.
"Sure! I'd love to!"
Wait what?! Why did I just say that? Darn you Ellie!
"Great see you later then? Meet me after school?"
"Sure thing."
Wow. I have a study date with Timothy. Wait no. It's not a date. It's just studying. It's a study session. That's it.
He opens the door for me and we head in and take our seats. He sits right next to me. Of course. The rest of the day my mind is clouded with thoughts of him.-After School-
As promised I meet up with Timothy after school.
"Want to walk? My house isn't much farther from yours."
"Sure! I just need to text my brother."E: hey I'm going to Nate's house to study for a test.
N: are you sure studying with him is going to help you stop have feelings for him?
E: its not about that. It's just about trying to get a good grade.
N: whatever you say.
E: stop it
N: I didn't do anything!
E: whatever. See you later
N: bye little sis
E: YOUNGER sister"Ok. All done. Let's go."
We walk the fifteen minutes to his house in a comfortable silence.
As I step up into his porch he rushes ahead of me to open the door. Not needing to use a key because for some strange reason his house is always unlocked.
"Ladies first." He says giving a little bow.
I laugh at his dorkiness.
"Why thank you."
I walk in and set my bag down on his kitchen table. I take a seat and start pulling out books.
"Do you need anything? Something to drink or eat?"
"Um. No thank you. I'm good."
He gets a glass of apple juice for himself and comes to sit down.
"So... Are you ready to study?"
I ask pulling out a pencil.
"Actually I wanted to tell you someth-"
He's cut off by the door opening and his mom yelling
"I'm home!"I wonder what he was going to tell me?
