My eyes flutter open. The first thing I notice is that I'm still on Timothy's couch and he's not there. I sit up straight and rub my eyes. I wonder what time it is. It's pretty dark outside. I stand up and walk into his kitchen and see Timothy standing at the stove stirring something in a pot.
"Hey."
I say softly trying not to startle him.He turns around and smiles at me.
"Hey. You took a nice, long nap there.""Yeah I guess I did. Sorry. I didn't mean to fall asleep."
I say sheepishly.He chuckles.
"It's fine."
He turns back around and continues to stir whatever is in the pot."I need to text my mom she must be worried. What time is it anyway?"
I say quickly and search for my phone."No need. I already texted them and said you decided to stay for dinner. I didn't know how long you would stay asleep and I didn't want to wake you. My mom and dad are on a date tonight and they won't mind. You don't actually have to stay if you don't want to. Oh and it's six o'clock."
"I'd love to stay. Thank you."
I smile even though he can't see me.
"What are you making?""Macaroni and cheese."
I chuckle.
"Wow. Gourmet."He turns around and points a finger at me.
"Hey now. It's good macaroni. Family recipe. You don't have to eat it if you're gonna sass it."I raise my eyebrows and smile at him.
"I'm not sassing it. Just... Complimenting. And it's a family recipe?"He turns off the stove and drains the noodles into a colander.
"You bet it is. From my moms side. The Kraft family."I laugh at him.
"Kraft family? Seriously?""Yeah! It's the best around!"
He puts a couple spoonfuls of macaroni into two bowls and sets them on the table."Bon appetite."
He says in a very bad French accent."Merci Monsieur."
I take a seat and he sits next to me.I take a bite of the "gourmet" macaroni.
"Well done. It's almost as if it's out of a box.""No no no. Never out of a box. Much much better."
He says shaking his head trying to be reassuring."Oooohhhh. Right."
We stare at each other for a moment trying hard not to laugh. He slips first and bursts out laughing which only makes me laugh harder."Oh my gosh."
I gasp trying to catch my breath."How about we actually eat now."
He dries tears from his eyes."That sounds like a good idea."
I laugh. After we finish our macaroni we wash our dishes and then retreat to the living room. I sit down and he sits right up next to me and puts his arm around my shoulders. I blush slightly, hoping he doesn't notice. He's very close after all.
He doesn't seem to notice. Or maybe he does and just had the courtesy not to comment on it.
"So... What do you want to do?"
He asks.I shrug my shoulders.
"I don't know. What do you want to do?""I don't know. What do you want to do?"
"Ok I don't want to do that all night. You pick."
I laugh."Let's just talk."
He suggests."Sounds good to me. Talk about what?"
"Hmmmm. Have you started reading those books yet?"
My face lights up.
"I have actually! It really really good so far. I can't wait to read them all!""I gave them to you last night and you've already started reading them?"
He laughs at me."Well yeah. What else are you supposed to do with books?"
"Touché. Just wait until the ending of the last book. It will shatter you to pieces."
"Oh no. I'm scared now."
"You should be."
He says in a deep voice with his eyes squinted.I laugh at him now.
"You're not very scary ya know.""Hey. I could be scary if I wanted to."
He acts offended."Yeah right."
He quickly gets up from the couch and runs away.
"Timothy?"
I yell laughing.
"What are you doing? That wasn't scary whatsoever."As soon as I say those last words the power goes out and I'm left in complete darkness. The fact that it's dark outside too doesn't help a thing.
"Timothy?"
I say quietly.
No answer."Timothy!"
I yell.
"You aren't being funny! Or scary!"I reach my hands out in front of me and make my way across the room to the light switch. After grasping around I find it. I try switching it on and off even though I know it's pointless. Nothing happens as expected.
"Timothy! Don't scare me!"
I'm afraid he'll jump out from behind a wall and scare me. Nate's done it enough times to me already. I don't need it again. My eyes start to adjust to the darkness as I carefully make my way towards the kitchen creeping around the walls trying to spot Timothy. But I don't see him. I turn the other direction trying to be quiet. I make my way down the hall on my tiptoes. I'm almost to the front door when I feel two arms wrap around me and lift me up.
I scream very loudly and for very long."Timothy!"
I yell and pull away from him.My eyes have adjusted so I see him almost clearly. He's laughing his head off right now while he clutches his stomach and kneels on the ground because he's too weak to even stand.
"That wasn't funny!"
I exclaim."Y-yes it w-was."
He manages.I look at him laughing on the ground and I start to laugh myself. He looks up at me and laughs harder when he see me laughing. Soon were both rolling in the floor still laughing and for no real apparent reason.
Soon we manage to sit ourselves up against the wall and calm down.
"How was that for scary?"
He asks."Pretty darn scary. Remind next time to never tell you that again."
"Duly noted."
We smile at each other for a moment and then he stands up and helps me stand.
"I should probably get back to my house now."
I say brushing off my pants even though there's nothing there."Yeah. And I should probably turn the power back on before mom and dad get home."
"Probably. See you later Timothy. I had fun."
"Me too."
He embraces me in a hug, catching me off guard. I soon hug him back until he pulls away."Be careful on your way back."
He warns."I will. Don't worry."
I leave the house waving once more as I get on my bike. I soon arrive home and I walk through the front door. I don't know what I expect to see. Maybe mom cleaning the dishes? Maybe even to still see Jenna here. But I never expected to see.....
