I wake up only to the sound of someone pounding on my door.
I sit up groggily and finally come to my senses."Come in!"
Nate walks in my room and looks at me with horror in his eyes.
"What are you doing still in bed?!"My eyes widen and I look over to my clock.
7:12
Shoot!
I jump out of bed and run to my closet."Yeah you better hurry! We leave in eight minutes. What were you thinking sleeping in this late?"
I pull on a sweatshirt and look at him for a moment. I can't tell him why now. We'll for sure be late and it's not exactly the right time. He deserves to know though. But is it my place to tell him? Should I wait and let mom?
"I just didn't sleep well last night."
There. I technically didn't lie. Because I slept like crap. I just withheld a bit of the truth."Alright. Well you better hurry. Five minutes! I'll have breakfast in the car."
He says as he exits my room."You're a lifesaver!"
I yell as he shuts the door.I rush to the bathroom and quickly brush my teeth. Then I brush my blonde hair and just leave it down today. I can't afford to do anything with it even though it needs it desperately.
I race back into my room to grab my books. Luckily I was smart enough to put them back in my backpack the night before. I grab that and run to the car.I plop down onto the brown, ripping leather seats of his car and buckle in.
"Here. I got you a pop tart and an apple. Oh and I also filled your water bottle."
I take them graciously as he drives off.
It's only 7:23. Not too bad."You're amazing Nate, thank you."
I take a bite of the pop tart. Not my first choice but hey, who am I to complain. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't even be eating right now."Anytime Ell. Just maybe next time set your alarm?"
"I thought I did. Guess I forgot to double check."
We pull into the schools parking lot and we rush out of the car and head straight to class. I tell myself to focus on school. I can't let anything else cloud my thoughts today. Nothing at all. We had the science test today that was worth 10% of our grade. I have to pass. It was surprisingly easy to clear my mind. I guess I really just wanted to forget about it so when met with the chance, I did.
I meet Timothy in the hall as I head to science class.
"Hey Ellie. Are you nervous for the test?"
"No. Not at all."
I lie."That's good. I'm stressing. I have to get a good grade. I guess we all need to though. We'll do fine though. I'm sure you will. I'm sure I will. I'm sure we both will. Hopefully it's easy. But it could be easy and I get so stressed that it's hard. Cause you know I can't fail. I just really have to-"
"Timothy! Stop talking! You're rambling. You always do that when you're nervous. It's alright. You'll do fine. We both will."
I give him a smile and a squeeze on the shoulder and head into the class.I take a seat and take a deep breath.
