"If you keep looking at me like that we won't make it to a bed."
------------------------------------------------------
"You're the first gorgeous person I've ever met who didn't want to talk about themself."
That was how everything started, from that one, simple phrase. Sure, he had you from the moment he said "Hey", but when you heard that phrase, you knew there was something different about him, something good.
That night was the first party you had ever been to, the first time you ever really went out. You had never been to that place before & you didn't know anyone there, but you went anyway. In all honesty, you had no idea what compelled you to go there in the first place. You hated socializing, hated big crowds of people, & didn't drink. You had no purpose there whatsoever, but your curiosity got the best of you & you went in anyway.
Now, you were convinced you were compelled to go there because of Kyle. Not because of fate or love or some other third bullshit variable, but because of the simple fact of your bad decisions & bad timing. You always seemed to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, & that party definitely fit into your bad timing.
It didn't start off so badly, when you first met Kyle & the two of you had a lovely conversation. You could feel the chemistry boiling between you two, & it made your skin itch with desire. You weren't going to sleep with a guy you barely knew, but his kindness & charm did make you question your concrete moral for a bit.
Kyle saw you wandering around aimlessly like a deer lost in the headlights. He couldn't help but notice how beautiful & kind you looked. He figured he could try to help & hopefully, make his move. You didn't see him until he was right in front of you, smiling, "You look lost. Do you go to school here?"
You looked everywhere except directly at him. You could never make eye contact with anyone; it was just too personal, "No, I graduated last Spring."
His smiled widened so that his dimples showed, "Oh wow! Are you like an alumni or something?"
You sighed & shook your head, "No, I graduated at a different university."
He furrowed his eyebrows curiously, "Which one?"
You bit your lip, his incessant questions making you uncomfortable, "One on the other side of the country."
Now, he just looked absolutely confused, "Really? Well, what brought you here, to New Orleans?"
You couldn't handle his interrogatory attitude any longer, "Look, can we talk about something else? I'd rather not be the center of attention tonight."
He stared at you for a moment in thought before speaking, "You're the first gorgeous person I've ever met who didn't want to talk about themself. There must be something wrong with you," he teased. You just smiled kindly, "Oh, I got it. You've got a boyfriend, don't you?" he seemed a bit dejected at the thought, but feigned humility.
"No, I don't have anybody."
He smiled a bit, relieved that you were single, "Well, you have me."
"I don't really know you that well."
"I can change that," he said, looking at you, his eyes practically pleading with you to give him a chance. You sighed & bit your lip, cautiously looking him in the eyes. He was the first person you had stared directly in the eyes for a long time & it made your heart race. It was the first time you had broken your no-leeway rule & you had no idea why, "Excuse me for being a bit forward," he spoke again, your eyes never leaving his, "but if you keep looking at me like that, we won't make it to a bed," you were entirely taken aback by his sudden change in tone. You couldn't tell if he was just trying to be flirtatious or if he truly meant it. He seemed sheepish about saying those words, but in his mind, those were the only words he could think of that could best describe how he felt about you.
