"Are you out of your damn mind?!"

"Don't you ever do that again!"

------------------------------------------------------

It was the night before Halloween, known commonly as Hallows Eve, or as James' birthday, to you. You had spent the better part of the whole day decorating the entire hotel to surprise your boyfriend when he came home from the errands he was running. You were currently hanging up some streamers in the lobby, Liz laughing at the sight of you struggling. You eventually finished up & carefully came down your ladder. You stood back & observed your work, a smile slowly appearing on your face.

"He's going to love it!" Liz exclaimed excitedly.

Your smile just widened, "I know," you quickly went upstairs into Room 64 to finish wrapping James' gifts. You had gotten a large amount of expensive & high end items, eager to spoil your boyfriend since he was turning the big three-oh.

You weren't entirely sure exactly when James would be home, but you knew it would be late in the evening, giving you plenty of time to finish everything.

Later that evening, James arrived back at the Cortez, bringing his guests for the night with him. They all gazed at your incredible craftsmenship, James grinning widely, "It appears my girlfriend has made my hotel more festive for my birthday," he observed.

"You are quite lucky, my friend," one of his guests replied.

"I know," he said simply, his grin widening. He escorted his guests into the large dining hall, where he would be hosting his Hallows Eve Bash tonight. You had no idea that he had planned this & you had no idea that your boyfriend was a serial killer. He chose to leave those two majorly important details out, not wanting to lose you over his poor decisions.

As his guests got situated, you were upstairs getting ready. You wanted to look your best for him when he got back. Considering it was his birthday, you wanted to impress him.

The festivities continued downstairs, unbenounced to you.   James & his guests were laughing & drinking as they enjoyed their meal, discussing their latest victims & kills. James couldn't help but let his thoughts wander, beginning to think of you. He felt so incredibly guilty about lying to you & doing all of this right under your nose, but he couldn't help who he was. This was a part of him, a part he was both ashamed of & afraid of you seeing.

Seeing all the decorations around the hotel only made him feel more guilty, knowing that you were probably upstairs worried sick about him as you prepared to spoil him.

Upstairs in Room 64, you were staring at the clock as you poured yourself a drink. The party downstairs had been going on for several hours & still unnoticed by you. You were beginning to worry about him, but you trusted him & knew that he would come home as soon as he was finished. You stared at the clock, frowning as the time continued to pass without James. You finished your drink & sprawled into James' favorite chair, missing him dearly.

The men downstairs were laughing hysterically, having drank a little too much & gorged a bit too gluttonously on the food. James had completely lost track of time, forgetting all about the amazing girlfriend he had waiting upstairs.

When the clock struck midnight, you became a bit irritated & hurt, deciding to go downstairs & have Liz prepare you more drinks. You had already finished an entire bottle of wine James had lying around in his room. Needless to say, you were a bit tipsy. Your hand held onto the railing of the stairs tightly as you drunkenly made your way down them. You heard loud laughter coming from the dining room downstairs, making you stop when you reached the bottom of the staircase. It peaked your interest, so you skipped the bar & walked towards the dining room.  You were shocked to find your boyfriend, sitting at the table surrounded by guests.

"James?" you asked. The room suddenly went silent & James stared at you, his eyes widening.

He quickly stood up, "Darling! There you are! I was beginning to wonder where you were," he made his way over to you, ushering you out of the dining room, but it was too late. You had already recognized all of his guests as the notorious serial killers they were. Now, you were not only furious, but you were extremely terrified.

"James what the actual Hell is going on? I've been waiting for you all day!"

He sighed, "Listen, Darling, I can explain--"

"Are you out of your damn mind?! You brought those...those monsters into your hotel. What the Hell were you thinking?!"

His heart stung a bit at the word 'monsters', "Just let me explain, my Dear."

"There's nothing to explain, James," you glared at him, "I spent all day decorating this place & wrapping up your gifts & I have been waiting up there in your room with a bottle of wine this entire evening, while you just have some party with serial killers right under my nose? How could you do this to me?"

"Darling, please," he pleaded, "You don't understand," you just glared at him, "These are my friends. Their killing is just something they do, it's not who they are. They are still lovely & charismatic people," he cleared his throat, "However, that being said, I do not want you joining us when we have our annual Hallow's Eve Bash. Do you understand? Don't you ever walk in on our party like that again."

You raised an eyebrow, "Excuse me?" you scoffed, "First, you keep me waiting all night & now you're telling me what to do? I don't know who you think you are but I'm not just someone you can boss around & control, James. I'm your goddamn girlfriend."

You turned to walk back upstairs, but he grabbed your wrist & turned you around, "Darling, please," he begged, hurt evident in his eyes, "I love you dearly & I only want the best for you. I had no idea that you were planning something tonight. Thus, I thought my annual bash could continue as planned."

You sighed, realizing you were being a bit harsh with him. It's true, you kept everything a surprise & he had no idea, so there was no way he would cancel his plans if he didn't know you had other plans. He was just doing what he did every year because he had no one to throw him a birthday party before you came into his life, "You're right, I'm sorry. I was just upset because I missed you so much."

He smiled brightly, "I missed you, too & I'm sorry too," he leaned close & kissed you, which you eagerly returned. He wrapped his arm around your waist & smiled against your lips, "I'll tell you what. Our party is just about complete & when it is finished, I'll come upstairs & we can celebrate the remainder of my birthday together. Just the two of us; how does that sound?"

You smiled, "That sounds like a plan."

His smile widened & he kissed you again, "I love you."

"I love you, too, James," you reluctantly let go of him & headed back to the stairs. You turned & winked at him, "Don't keep me waiting, Mr. March."

He grinned, "Wouldn't dream of it, Darling."
