"Boo."

------------------------------------------------------

It was Halloween & you & Tate were walking together, hand-in-hand, along the shoreline of the beach near your home. The water was fairly quiet & still, the sun setting softly along the horizon. Seeing as this was the only night & time Tate could drift away from the Murder House, you took it as an opportunity to go out on a real date.

"I haven't seen the sunset or felt the water in years," Tate confessed as you both stopped to watch the sunset. He squeezed your hand gently, sighing happily as his eyes continued to gaze at the setting sun.

"I don't know how you didn't go mad in that house. I can't imagine not being able to see the sun set & rise every day or not being able to feel sand & water flow through my toes."

He smiled slightly, "Maybe that's why I did go mad. Being couped up in that house really makes you lose your mind."

You frowned slightly, "Well, even if you are a little insane, I still love you."

He grinned, kissing your cheek, "I love you, too, & thank you for that," he pulled you closer, wrapping his arm around your waist as you pressed into his side. His huge sweater felt itchy against your face, but you ignored it as you huggged your boyfriend. He kissed the top of your head as you squeezed his waist gently. You both stayed in an embrace until the sun finished setting & day became night.

Tate pulled away first, gently taking your hand as he led you back to the little hideway he had brought you to earlier. The small campfire you started was still there & you both sat around it. All was quiet once more as you both basked in the glow of the soft flames. You watched the fire dance against the logs, the flames reaching up towards the sky. Tate gently got up & sat beside you, draping a blanket over you before he wrapped an arm around you. You snuggled into his side, laying your head on his shoulder. He kissed your head & rubbed your blanketed arm, sighing contentedly. You smiled against his shoulder, pressing a soft kiss to it. You sat there in Tate's embrace, just watching the fire. You were so engrossed by it that you didn't even notice that Tate had disappeared until you nearly fell because your head was suddenly no longer on his shoulder.

You sat up & wrapped yourself tighter in the blanket, looking around for him, "Tate?" your eyes scanned the vast expanse, but Tate was nowhere to be seen. You started to panic slightly. Did he leave you alone? Was he not coming back? The thought of Tate just completely ditching you broke your heart. You went back to staring at the fire, hoping this wasn't some bullshit break-up stunt.

You got your answer when you felt a breath by your ear & a whisper, "Boo," you jumped immediately, turning to find Tate. He gently laid his hands on your shoulders, trying not to laugh, "Whoa, hey, it's just me," he said.

You shoved his shoulders off you, shooting him a playful glare, "You asshole. Where did you go?'

He smiled, "I just went back home to get this," he slowly pulled a small, black box out from behind his back. It was wrapped in a cute black bow, "Happy Halloween! I know it's your favorite holiday, so I got you a little something."

You grinned from ear to ear, "Aw, Tate, you shouldn't have."

He waved his dismissively, "It's nothing big or too special, really," you opened the box carefully, not wanting to mess up the bow, & found his favorite & most valuable ring inside.

You looked up at him, shock taking over all your features, "You're giving me your ring?" that ring was everything to him & the fact that he was giving it to you was completely baffling. He wouldn't give that ring to just anyone.

He smiled, nodding, "Yes. You mean a lot to me, & I want you to realize just how much," you grinned widely as he gently slid the ring onto your middle finger. Tate usually wore it on his thumb & he had fairly large hands, so it barely fit on your hand. Luckily, it fit onto your middle finger with only slight movement.

You leaned over & kissed him, smiling, "Now I can flip people off in style, thank you," he laughed & kissed you again. You scoot closer into him, returning into the original position you were in before he disappeared to get your gift. You hugged his waist & kissed him again, "Happy Halloween, Tater Tot," you smiled & he returned it, his dimples showing, "I love you."

His hand grazed your lower back as he said back, "I love you, too," he kissed you once more, & you eagerly returned it. You pressed your palms against his chest, his ring, now your ring, gleaming softly under the moonlight & glow of the fire.
