Peter is a very sentimental guy, so the ring wouldn't be something he would just steal from a random jeweler's shop. He wouldn't even buy a new ring because it wasn't sentimental enough. Instead, he would give you a family heirloom. His mother kept her mother's wedding ring & when she passed away, his mother had given him the ring as a permanent reminder & connection to his beloved grandmother. Since he loved you so much, he decided that it was the best to give it to you, after a good cleaning & getting the damages fixed, of course. Although the ring wouldn't be some lavishing stone the size of a rock, he knew your appreciation for his sentiment would be larger than any stone.
The proposal:
Although he's a huge dork, he's the biggest softie & romantic you know & his proposal would be just as such. He would spend weeks planning it before he finally went through it & it would be so incredibly cute. He would challenge you to a game & promised that if you beat him, you would get a prize. He let you win & the prize ended up being a proposal.
---"So, what's my prize? What arr you doing? Why are you getting down on one--oh mY GOD PETER"
