______________________________Chapter Four
When I reached my room, Stephanie had just stepped out of her own. She spotted me, waved enthusiastically and skipped happily towards me. I smiled and quirked a brow at her. "You seem especially happy today." I said to her. I opened my door and she followed me inside.
"I am!" She beamed from ear to ear.
"Okay. Should I ask why?" I smiled at her and she came closer to me and wrapped her arms around my shoulders and hugged me tightly.
She pulled back but kept her hands on my shoulders. "I just ran into the most handsome guy I have ever seen," she said dreamily and finally let me go. "He has to be the most beautiful man I have ever seen." She swooned and sat in my desk chair.
I put my cell down on my desk then went and sat on my rock bed. I cringed as I attempted to make myself comfortable. "Where did you run into this hunky man?" I teased her lightly.
"At the laundromat. I was washing my delicates and when I was leaving, BAM," she slapped her hands together to represent the crash. "I crashed into him with my basket of delicates and they went scattering everywhere after I dropped my basket." She blushed. "He helped me pick them up and then offered to walk me back to the dorm."
"Wow," was all I could say.
"Yea, wow! He has invited me to a party tonight. I asked him if I could bring you and he said yes!"
My face fell, "What time?"
Her smile fell too as she looked to my crestfallen expression, "He said he will pick me up at seven-thirty."
"I'm sorry Stephanie. I would love to go but I have an interview at eight and need to catch the bus there at seven-fifteen." I didn't want to leave that early but that was the only bus to leave before eight to get me there in time.
"Who holds interviews at eight at night?" She sounded put off.
"I don't know but his name is Lord Drayven."
Her brows rose, "A Lord?"
I laughed, "Yep." I got off my bed and decided to look through my clothes for what to wear to my interview.
"And you are interviewing for what kind of job exactly?" Stephanie now sounded suspicious.
I laughed again at her, "A Nanny position; well technically it will just be babysitting because it's for a few hours during late evening and into the night and not an all day or live in kind of thing." To us that was what a nanny was.
"Well, alright, but I really wish you could go to the party with me," she pouted now.
I sighed. "I know me too but I really would like a new mattress before I think about going to any parties."
She nodded understandingly, "I know." She frowned at my bed. "If my bed was a queen size or bigger I would share with you but I'm a bad bed hog and,"
"I know," I interrupted her. The full beds in our dorm rooms were just big enough for us, comfortably.
Before Stephanie left my room to go get ready for another orientation class, I reminded her the dangers of drinking from already opened containers and reminded her of stranger danger and of course not to let anyone drink and drive. I gave her a hug and as she walked out I prayed that she stayed safe and that this gorgeous man of hers was on the level.
I fretted with my hair, with my clothes, and with my make up. I was extremely nervous, if that wasn't obvious already. As I walked to the bus stop, I worried about Stephanie. Even though we had only known each other a few days, I considered her a close friend. Plus, I remembered all the horror stories my Mom used to tell me about girls who go places they really shouldn't or do things they shouldn't. My Mom was a vivid story teller. I missed her and my Dad greatly.
As I sighed to my self, I saw the bus approaching. I paid the fee and took a seat in the first seat to the left behind the driver. I wasn't going far and didn't want to go much further in to the bus than necessary. Plus, their were only three others on the bus and plenty of seats.
As the bus approached the street I needed, I pulled the bell to be let off. The bus driver nodded bye to me, shut the door behind me and drove off. I looked at the slip of paper Widow gave me and read the address again and then began to look for the house it belonged to. I was in a very upscale neighborhood. The homes were actually huge mansions, with security gates and some even had a guard posted at the gate. As I approached one of the gates with a guard station, the guard stepped out and greeted me. I doubled checked my paper to make sure this was the correct address and it was. My eyes grew and the guard smiled at my expression. The dark haired guard smiled and I couldn't believe how bright white his teeth were. I thought that a little weird. He must have used too much whitener.
"Do you have an appointment miss?" the guard asked.
I cleared my throat before speaking, "Yes sir, I am here to interview for the nanny position."
The guard seemed to like my answer and smiled bigger. "I'll have someone pick you up to take you to the house."
He began to walk back towards the guard house when I interrupted him, "I can walk."
He turned and frowned, "It's two in a half miles miss."
My eyes widened in shock. "Wow, well, okay then. I guess I'll accept that ride."
He nodded with a gentle smile, "Very well miss."
I blushed at his continued usage of calling me miss. Not five minutes after he made a phone call, a very nice and shiny black beamer golf cart pulled up. I was impressed. The driver, dressed like the guard switched places with the guard that I had spoken to and he offered me the seat next to him. He said goodbye to the new guard and began to drive me to the house.
I was surprised he didn't speak to me the entire drive and I was actually too nervous to initiate a conversation but as he slowed the cart and stopped he said, "Good Luck Miss!" He gave me that bright smile again and I thanked him before exiting the golf cart.
I walked up the very elaborate and beautiful stairs to the ornately decorated front door. It too was beautiful with gold trim and gold designs on its white wood. It was rather beautiful.
