Chapter Twenty Eight
A very happy and loud Azereen, ran into my room skipping as soon as I began to stir. "We are getting out of the castle today!" she sung loudly.
"We were suppose to go yesterday but Daddy said you were busy," she skipped closer, her eyes twinkling with excitement. She bounced on to the bed, her giddiness prominent in her features.
Ah, yes, yesterday... Too much happened. I tensed briefly remembering all I went through. I quickly shook it off and looked at Azereen.
I smiled at her enthusiasm but really, I wanted to just pull a cover my head and go back to sleep but, I also didn't want to let her down. "Sure honey. Where are we going?" My voice had that morning croaky dry sound.
She bounced on her knees next to me, "We get to go pick out our dresses for the ball and maybe some shoes. Plus, I would like to look at some other things." With the latter she got a mischievous look.
"Ok. Give me thirty minutes?" I moved to get out of bed but was tackled.
Azereen hugged me tightly and I patted her back. "Thank you Azereen. I really needed that hug."
"I know," she smiled sweetly, her eyes twinkling with unspoken knowledge. She knew something I didn't but I didn't bother to press her.
After a quick shower and my other usual preparations, I dressed in a white tank top, then a soft, snug grey sweater. With that, I pulled on a pair of greyish blue-jean pants and calf high brown leather boots. I didn't know how I was suppose to dress but figured this was as good as anything.
When I exited the bathroom, Lydia was there sitting a tray on the tea table. She looked at me with a confused expression. "No offense my Lady, but why are you dressed that way?"
How did I know that was coming? "Because I'm going out with Azereen today." She still looked confused. "I'm comfortable. What else was I suppose to wear."
She finally shrugged her shoulders. "My apologies, my Lady."
"Would you like to come with us?" I asked suddenly which took her by surprise.
She quickly shook her head. "Oh no, my Lady." She looked in thought for a moment before speaking again. "I.... have much to do."
I pressed my lips into a knowing, yet forced smile. "Some other time then, alright?"
Lydia just smiled sincerely and brought me a goblet from the tray. "Sir Renfry ordered me to make sure you drink this before you left today with the princess."
I took the goblet, "Thank you." As I drank the delicious life sustenance I thought. Was Blaine worried I'd hurt someone? Or was he worried about my eyes changing again? Either way, I'd take the precaution gladly.
Azereen took that moment to enter and again skipped happily to my side. She was dolled up in a beautiful pink fluffy dress. When she looked me over she frowned. "Awe, no fair. I want to dress like you," she huffed and crossed her arms over her chest.
