I sat across from Lord Drayven in his study and played with my purse strap as he wrote on some papers. He continued for a few more minutes and then stared at me for a brief moment before speaking.

"You will need to be here promptly at 6 pm every evening. Saturdays I will need you here at 4 pm. And Sundays you may have off."

He shuffled the papers toward me so I could go over them and he continued, "Your salary is written on the first page," he motioned and I lifted the page to see, giving myself a paper cut in the process.

As I shook my finger from the brief pain I heard a quick sharp intake of air. I looked up to see Lord Drayven gawking at me like I had grown three heads.

"Paper cut," I blushed and rose my now lightly bleeding finger.

Lord Drayven paled and I quickly put my hand down embarrassed that I may have just made him sick.

"Your......" He looked confused now and I took that moment to look at the sheet of paper.

Next to the word 'salary' was the very large and very shocking amount of $15,000 a week. I choked on air and looked up to the still confused looking Lord Drayven.

"Fifteen thousand dollars a week?" I whispered to myself in pure disbelief.

Lord Drayven cleared his throat, "if it isn't sufficient enough we can,"

I interrupted him with a wave of my hand, "No, this is too much actually."

Lord Drayven looked stumped for a moment and rose to his feet quickly. "I must speak with Sir Renfrey about.... something I just remembered," he said nervously and quickly left the room.

In his absence I continued to go over the paperwork. There was a confidentiality page I had to sign too. I supposed being a VIP you would want to make sure that your personal life isn't blabbed to the world.

As I finished reading through all the papers, the office door slowly opened. I looked over expecting Lord Drayven but it was Sir Renfrey instead.

"My apologies Miss Silverfall, would you like a drink?"

"Call me Kenzie and yes please, a bottle of water will be nice," I smiled.

Sir Renfrey sniffed deeply before nodding his head, "Very good, I will be right back with that, Kenzie," he smiled and left me alone.

I couldn't help but wonder why so many people that I had met recently took long sniffs of air in my presence. I found it odd and hoped it wasn't some kind of body odor that I couldn't smell myself.

I sighed heavily as I contemplated that thought and the amount written in front of me for a weekly salary. I would have been happy with two hundred a week.

Sir Renfrey returned two minutes later with an ice cold bottle of water.

"Thank you," I took the water and proceeded to open it when out of no where Sir Renfrey grabs my hand and inspects my finger with the paper cut.
I gasped from the suddenness of his grasp and blushed.

"Nasty little pains aren't they," Sir Renfrey smirked as he let my hand go just as suddenly as he grabbed it. "My apologies Kenzie. I was just being nosy."

He really didn't seem that apologetic but I shrugged the strangeness of the situation away.

"Yes they are. I hate it when I get one," I nursed my finger, "and I seem to be plagued with getting them." I mused out loud.

I looked up and was shocked to find myself alone again. I didn't even hear Sir Renfrey leave and didn't know if he had heard me or not.

I sat there and signed all the paperwork then realized twenty minutes had passed since Sir Renfrey had given me the water. I was hoping Lord Drayven wasn't reconsidering hiring me. I didn't need fifteen grand a week but boy would it be nice! I was excited at the prospect.

After another ten minutes of contemplating the things I wanted to purchase Lord Drayven returned.
He looked at me solemnly before clearing his features to one of indifference.

"I apologize for the lengthy delay," he sat, "an urgent issue arose that had to be dealt with..... immediately. " He took the papers back and went over every page before speaking again.

"I've decided," he paused.

Oh, here it comes, he isn't going to hire me after all; I thought, and felt my self sink a little in my seat.

"To send a car to pick you up each day to ensure you arrive on time. I can not depend on the local transportation to get you here on time when I have business to attend to without being late myself."

I was a little flabbergasted, "I assure you,"

He waved me off sharply, "This is my term for your employment." He was blunt.

All I could do was nod my head in that moment. I was a little put off by the fact that he just had to send a car to get me everyday instead of trusting me to get myself here on time. But fifteen grand a week and not having to ride the bus was more than I could have asked for.

"Very well," he shuffled the papers into a folder. "There will be a car waiting to take you home."

I sat there dumbfounded for about thirty seconds until I realized he was dismissing me.

"Thank you... Lord Drayven," I fumbled with my purse and stood so fast I wobbled briefly. I looked up hoping Lord Drayven hadn't seen that but he averted his gaze so fast that I wasn't sure if he had or not.

"Evening Miss Silverfall. We will see you tomorrow," he said without looking at me again.

"Good bye," I said quickly and left the room feeling like I should curtsy or something but refrained from it out of embarrassment.
