Chapter Ten
The first week as Azereen's nanny went by too fast. When Lord Drayven handed me my check on Friday, I still couldn't believe it.
Azereen was an angel and really didn't require too much work in looking after her. Every evening we would play tea party and then she would let me do my homework. After that, I spent playing or hanging out with her. So, when I looked at the check in my hand, I felt a little guilty accepting so much for what I considered play time.
I never had a little sister or brother for that matter, and spending this time with Azereen has been a joy. Lord Drayven assured me it was alright to accept it, saying that I earned it and after he gave me a strange look I shrugged and accepted it.
A lot of times, I thought I saw Lord Drayven at the door of Azereen's room while we were playing but every time I looked there was no one there. I knew there was no way someone could move as fast as I looked so I was either imagining things or it was wishful thinking.
It was kind of hard to picture things like that but I couldn't help it. I felt this strong attraction to him. His haunting blue eyes had such depth of emotions in them that someone would drown in them and his lips, so kissable. I had to get these things out of my head.
Stephanie and I spent all day Sunday shopping and by that next Tuesday, I had a brand-new bed, not to mention a new laptop and wardrobe. Yes, I was set and sitting pretty. Even against Stephanie's wishes, I still bought her new clothes and makeup. We had become extremely close. She was my best friend. I never had one like her before so I didn't mind spending a nice chunk of money, that I really didn't earn, on her.
The next four months went by just as quickly. I was acing all my classes; my lack of sleep wasn't bothering me and my time with Azereen was wonderful. Having a crush on her dad didn't hurt either.
It was now a day before New Year's Eve and Azereen had been distant and moody since I arrived. For the past week she had been slowly growing more and more emotional and tonight it seemed to have hit a crest.
We were now watching Princess Diaries in her own little living room that was adjacent from her room. It was one of her favorites. By the end of the movie she was sniffling. I turned the movie off and looked her over.
"Azereen," I hugged her closer, "You have been sad ever since I arrived. What's wrong?" I moved a strand of her hair out of her face.
She hid her face on my shoulder, "I'm going to miss you." She sniffled more and then let a soft sob escape before keeping quiet again.
"And why would you miss me? I'll be back tomorrow," I pushed her back a little so I could look in to her teary eyes.
She ripped herself out of my hands and ran away. I ran after her and seen that she had run into her father's office. I sucked in a deep breath. Every time I was near him my heart would take off and it seemed like he could actually hear it which, was crazy to think, but it still made me blush deeply.
