Chapter Seventeen
The fragrance drifting through the garden was pleasantly refreshing and relaxing. Deep scents of rose and lavender wafted around me creating such a serene environment. This could be my favorite place for the next four years.
But even with the beauty and the delightful aroma all around me, I just couldn't rid my mind of worry over my friend. What could have happened to her? Stephanie was so sweet and really dedicated to her education. She wouldn't have just dropped everything on a whim.
I found a bench to sit on near a willow tree that swayed in the gentle breeze. A soft light illuminated the area and I sighed taking in the scene. Then, as I relaxed, my mind only worked harder and a thought popped into my head. What if Stephanie was here? In the Vampire realm like me. It's totally plausible, isn't it?
Someone clearing their throat brought me out of my mental hashing and I looked up to see an amused Sir Renfrey. "I was almost worried you had decided to run away," he smirked.
I rolled my eyes and looked down at my feet, "I was told that would be detrimental to my health and I actually like being alive... even if it isn't where I'd rather be," I added the latter in a softer volume.
When I looked back up I saw Sir Renfrey frowning. "Sorry, I'm still bitter about all of this."
"No reason to apologize. You were taken against your will after all," he said and then offered me a hand.
"I have to go back in now?" I asked while staring at his offered hand.
Sir Renfrey nodded his head. "Lord Drayven would like to speak to you," he visibly sighed.
"You mean Prince Drayven," I said sarcastically with a hint of a smile.
Sir Renfrey nodded again but this time void of any emotion.
I huffed and took his hand. Once I was on my feet he let my hand go and led the way to the Prince's office. I wondered to myself what he wanted now.
Instead of knocking, Sir Renfrey opened the door and waved me on in. Prince Drayven was standing with his back to me looking out the tall windows behind his desk. As I walked closer I noticed his office windows over looked the garden. I blushed figuring he saw me there and was why he sent Sir Renfrey to collect me.
"I'm sorry, I saw the garden and really wanted," I began but he turned around and held a hand up for me to stop.
He smiled, "It's quit all right Kenzie. You may go in to the garden any time you like. I," he sat down and I followed suit, "just wanted to see how you were doing and to say you did exceptionally well tonight."
I saw the sincerity in his eyes but since I was still upset at being kidnapped I just scowled and nodded before saying, "Thank you Lord Drayven."
"Please, call me Mitchell when it's just us," he said casually. I noticed his suit jacket hung carelessly on the back of his seat and his tie was on his desk. The top three buttons of his shirt were undone and his hair was messy, like he had been running his hand through it several times.
