"Mum he's having an affair. No ifs, buts or maybes about it." I told my mum as I stole some of the stew chicken out of the pot. She slapped me in the back of my head as if I was not a grown adult.
"Take your dirty hands out my pot." She frowned.
"You know my hands are clean! I just washed them!" I said as I ate the chicken I managed to take.
"So what makes you so certain he's cheating?"
"I saw the hotel he actually stayed at. It was a couples retreat and I wasn't there."
"So why is he still breathing?" My mum asked making me laugh.
"Because mum, it doesn't work like that. I am going to take him for everything. Every penny he has worked for shall be mine. I just need more proof. So I shall stay focused on my career and stay being the loving wife I have been so he is none the wiser of my plan." I told her.
"You know if you killed him you would still get everything?" My mum added.
"I know that. But I'm not crazy like you and that would be too easy for him. I want him to suffer."
"You do realise there's a chance you could suffer too?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well, all you know now is based on speculation. But once you get facts, once you see an actual woman then that's when it will hit you. No amount of money can cure a heartbreak." She said.
"So what am I supposed to do? Let him continue?"
"No. I'm just saying, I make a mean shepherd's pie. I could put something in it if you want..."
"MUM NO" I laughed. The doorbell rang I knew it was Malcom we was going to see his mum. She was still in the hospital.
"Mother. Be nice. Don't blow this up for me." I said and she rolled her eyes at me.
"Hey babe, hey mum." Malcom said as he came in and kissed us both.
"Hey you." I said and smiled.
"You ready?" He asked me.
"Yeah mums just packing the food now." I told him. You see, we was a close unit family. My family loved his and vice versa but here he goes messing everything up.
"Right. That should hold your mum for the next few days until I can bring her some soup."
"Thanks mum. She's going to enjoy this." Malcolm said.
"I hope so. Oh yeah that reminds me son, do you like shepherd's pie?" My mum said and I burst out laughing. I couldn't believe her.
"Oh my god. Goodbye mum!" I said and kissed her and grabbed Malcolm's arm.
"What was all that about?" Malcom asked looking confused. Had to think fast on my feet.
"Erm, mum says I like shepherd's pie because no matter what I'm a white girl at heart." I lied. It sounded believable though. He laughed.
"Your mum has always been funny."
"She sure has." We drove in silence with the music playing. I could hear the vibration coming from Malcom's phone and I know he felt it but he refused to answer it. We stopped to get some flowers.
"Hey babe why don't you go get the flowers you always pick the best ones." He said. I smiled.
"Yeah sure." As I got out the car I called my second phone. I then turned around and came back to the car.
"What's up?" He asked.
"Don't have any money. Just my cards" I lied as I put my bag back in the car. He gave me some money and I left and acted like I was on the phone when really I was listening to his call through my other phone.
