"So what's up? You haven't been yourself and I know you have wanted to talk to me but I haven't had the time. But I have noticed."
"You have?"
"Yes Steph. Just because I ain't all over you doesn't mean I don't notice or care. I just respected your wishes. I even got the papers here. That's another reason I hadn't been around. I wanted to have the divorce papers so I could sign it."
"You... you got the papers?"
"Yep. I realised I couldn't keep you married to me. It wasn't fair. I care about you too much."
None of this was helping. This is what I wanted and if anything I felt worse. You see, this whole my biological parents being back was taking a bigger toll on me than I had expected.
"Thanks..."
"What's wrong Steph?"
"Where do I start?"
"Well we've got all night. Want a drink? I brought you some wine..."
"No!"
"No?"
"I can't drink..."
"Why not?"
"I'm... Pregnant..."
"Pardon?"
"Yep."
"How?"
"You want to ask how now? One daughter later and another baby on the way and you want to ask how?"
"Sorry. Wrong choice of word. I say how because Marnie is like 5 months."
"I know I know. I haven't gone for my first official scan yet. It's next week. I'll know exactly how far gone I am then."
"Is this why you're sad?"
"Yes and no."
"Talk to me. What's bothering you."
"Yes... because two children under the age of two is going to be a lot. We ain't together. You are here all the time yeah; but it's going to be all on me. If for whatever reason you chose to up and leave and stop being there I would have to be the one to deal with the two kids. I guess that's what I fear the most. No it's not bothering me as much as the other thing I have going on..."
"Which is?"
"My biological parents came to see me at mums house."
"Really?"
"Yeah."
"And let me guess, you didn't want to know?"
"Yep. Was angry at mum for telling me to come around and angry at them for thinking they could just come back into my life twenty seven years later."
"So what was their reason for coming back?"
"I didn't give them a chance. I stormed out."
