Chapter Fifty Five - Shane
2050
"What do you mean? How could you have been there during my accident?" Kaitlyn asked, shocked. But then she must have thought about it because she added "well actually, now that we know we definitely did know each other, it is entirely possible."
"And when was your accident?" I asked her.
"About two years ago, why? How is that relevant?"
"Because so was mine." I said, frowning.
"Yeah but your accident was completely unrelated to mine, your accident was a skiing accident."
"But was it?" I asked, staring into the sky and watching the dark clouds shifting.
"Come on, you're being paranoid now, our parents might have lied about us being together but they wouldn't make up some crazy story about a skiing accident."
"Kaitlyn I have literally no interest in skiing."
"But that was two years ago, things change." she said, reaching out to hold my hand.
"I wasn't interested in it two years ago either."
"Maybe you were before the accident and you just don't remember." She suggested.
"I may have lost my memory Kaitlyn but I didn't lose my personality, I still had the same likes and dislikes as before."
"Well what are you suggesting?" She asked, clearly dreading the answer.
I was about to speak but my vision suddenly went blurry and I found myself struggling to stand, my legs felt as weak as jelly and I couldn't hear Kaitlyn's words over the ringing in my ears, even though I could see her mouth was moving. My legs gave way beneath me.

A doctor in a pristine white jacket was talking to the woman outside who called herself my Mum, beside me on a rather worn down and uncomfortable looking chair was the man who called himself my Dad. I still didn't recognise them. When I first woke up they showed me tonnes of pictures, I couldn't tell if it was to prove they were indeed my parents or to try to make me remember them. If the purpose was the latter then I'm afraid it has failed.
"Why can't you fix his memory?" My 'Mum' asked the doctor.
She sympathetically replied, "the car hit your son at a high speed, he's lucky to be alive, there's no miracle cure for his memory, it may come back in pieces or it may never come back at all. The good news is that he is forming new memories perfectly well."
"Um, excuse me... Dad?"
"Yes son?"
"Why did that woman say I was hit by a car? I thought I was injured whilst skiing?"
"She... She didn't say anything about a car, you must have misheard." He looked worried, he was shuffling around on his chair and fiddling with the zip on his jacket.
I could have sworn she said I was hit by a car, but I'm so tired I can't be sure what I heard anymore.

When I opened my eyes I felt completely disorientated.
Kaitlyn was hovering over me, her eyes wide open with panic and her hands frantically touching my wrist. It took me a while to figure out what she was doing, she was checking my pulse.
"I'm not dead Kaitlyn."
"Oh my gosh, Shane, what happened? You just collapsed on the floor! You must have fainted, are you okay? Have you had enough sleep lately? Enough food and drink? Here, have some water." She said, thrusting her bottle into my hands.
I took a sip of the water and sat in silence while I gathered my thoughts.
"Kaitlyn?"
"Yes?"
"I don't think I had a skiing accident."
"I know you don't think so, we were talking about that before, remember? We shouldn't be worrying about that now, we should be worrying about making sure you're okay."
"Kaitlyn, people faint, it happens, I'll be fine, I feel absolutely fine now."
"Are you sure?" She asked, not fully prepared to believe me.
"Yes I'm sure. But Kaitlyn, I mean what I said. I didn't have a skiing accident, I had a car accident."
"How can you know that for sure?"
"I just remembered something, while I passed out."
"What was it? What was it you remembered?"
"I was laying in a hospital bed and a doctor was talking to my Mum outside of my room and I heard her say that the car hit me at a high speed and when I asked my Dad about it he nervously denied it. I remember that happening but at the time I just put it down to me being tired and disorientated after the accident, I haven't thought about it until now. My Dad was definitely hiding something." I explained.
"So you had a car accident like me?" She asked, still not getting my point.
"Kaitlyn, I'm not saying I had a car accident like you, I'm saying I had a car accident with you. Our accidents were one and the same thing."
