Here's a reminder of part of chapter 20, as it was a long time ago but it is necessary in understanding this chapter fully.

Chapter 20 was in Kaitlyn's POV and they were on their way back from the picnic they had, but Kaitlyn's clothes were so soaked that she had to go home and change them on the way to Shane's house.

I walked out the door and the sound of it closing attracted Shane's attention. He watched as I walked down the path towards him and I was secretly grateful that I had tripped inside and not whilst he was looking at me. Imagine that, tripping over right in front of him, he would have thought I was a complete fool.

When I reached him, I threw the towel at him and apologised for not owning any male clothes for him to change into. I grabbed some of his shirt to see how wet it was and it really was soaked right through!

In that moment, a thought flashed through my mind like a lightning bolt; there one second and gone the next. Well, it was more of an image than a thought. An image of me clutching Shane's dripping shirt, pulling him close and kissing him in the rain.

It startled me, really startled me. Not because I didn't like what I saw but because it seemed so real. I wasn't just watching from the sidelines, I was living it.

I could feel the warmth of his lips on mine and the contrasting coolness of his nose.

I could feel the rain spitting down on my cheeks, giving the same effect as pins and needles.

I could feel the softness of his large hands as they brushed my hair from my face and made me forget all about the sharpness of the rain.

"What the hell?" I thought to myself, "what the hell was that?"

"Are you okay?" Shane asked, looking worried. Both of his hands were holding either side of my face as he looked into my eyes.

"Yeah, I'm fine, why?"

"You just completely froze and stared blankly into space, did I do something wrong?" He asked as he took a step back, like he thought being near me offended me.

"What? No, you've done nothing," I assured him, stepping towards him and closing the space between us, "I just thought I saw something but I was imagining it."

"What did you think you saw?" He asked, still looking concerned.

"Umm... A bat."

So I hope that was enough of a recap before you read this chapter! Enjoy💗

Chapter Forty Seven - Shane

2050

Nothing was making any sense anymore. My brain was swarming with questions, causing a dull, but very unwelcome, ache to emerge at my temples. The room was silent. In fact, in that moment, the entire world seemed to pause and contemplate what was happening. There was no roar of traffic outside, something my ears had become accustomed to considering the era I was born into.

I turned my head, slowly, wearily, to peer at Kaitlyn. But my eyes were not met with her heavenly gaze. Instead they were met with the side of her head, her hair falling over her eyes, blocking me from seeing her, guarding her face. She wasn't looking at me, but at the picture that still remained in my hand.

I dropped the picture, the movement startling her. "Kaitlyn?" I whispered.

"I don't understand." She murmured, shaking her head, still not looking at me.

"Kaitlyn, look at me, there might be a perfectly reasonable explanation. It probably isn't me, I've only seen one picture of myself as a child, I could easily be mistaken. I'm sorry for scaring you, I shouldn't have said it was me without being sure first." She was still averting her gaze away from mine.

"Shane, it's not a coincidence. It can't be a coincidence." She insisted.

"What are you talking about? How could it possibly be me? There is no other explanation other than that it was a mistake on my part."

"Shane, listen to me." She looked at me now, and as soon as she did, I wished that she hadn't. To this day, I've never seen a pair of eyes that held so much alarm.

"Okay, I'm listening."

"As soon as I saw you, I felt like I knew you, like I recognised you from somewhere but I couldn't pin point where. You said that you felt the same, like I was familiar to you but you couldn't explain why." She explained.

"Carry on..." I nodded, feeling slightly light headed at the thought of what she was implying.

"Then we find a school photo that we both appear to be in, one from when we were children, one from a school that somehow doesn't exist on the internet. After that, we sit down together and watch a film but my brain completely switches to what I can only describe as a slideshow of pictures, pictures of the boy in the photo, pictures of you. As if my brain is trying to tell me to notice the boy in the picture, as if some lost memories are forcing themselves to the front of my mind."

"But what if it isn't me in the picture?" I asked, praying that despite all the evidence, this was all some big misunderstanding and life would be back to normal soon.

"This isn't the only time something like this has happened since I met you Shane."

"What do you mean? What aren't you telling me?" I asked, concerned.

"You remember that picnic in the field? You remember on the way back, when I said I thought I saw a bat?"

"You made that up, I knew it from the moment the words left your lips, but I didn't want to push you to tell me what actually happened. Now you must tell me though, you know you have to tell me, right?"

She nodded in response and her lips parted, but the words didn't come out. "I... I..."

"I need to know Kaitlyn." I said firmly, holding her small, delicate hand in mine.

"I don't know how to describe it. It wasn't like the pictures from earlier, it was more like watching a video, but it took up my whole field of vision."

"What did you see Kaitlyn?"

"I saw you, I was seeing it from the perspective of someone stood right in front of you. It was raining and I could feel the rain. It was so real, I could feel you, I could feel your lips, like I was remembering a vivid moment from my past, from our past."

Silence filled the room until my voice box finally started functioning properly again. "What are you suggesting?"

"I'm suggesting that we knew each other, more than that even, that we were together."
