Chapter Fifty Eight - Kaitlyn

2050

"Kaitlyn, I'm not saying I had a car accident like you, I'm saying I had a car accident with you. Our accidents were one and the same thing."

His words resonated in my mind and ricocheted against my skull. Worryingly, with everything that had happened in the last few weeks, Shane's new theory was entirely possible.

"But... Why would they pretend our accidents were separate if they weren't? I don't understand." I quivered.

"Because our accidents weren't just a coincidence Kaitlyn, they must have been something to do with what you overheard your parents saying."

I didn't like the sound of this. A few weeks ago my life was far from perfect but it made sense. Now, nothing made sense and it was hard to tell what was real.

As if reading my mind, Shane said "you're the only person I can rely on now Kaitlyn, you're the only person who's real, what we have is real."

I nodded in response and buried my face in his chest, at least I had Shane. I knew that as long as he was here, everything would be okay.

"We need to ask our parents about all this, if we don't tell them that we know then we're being just as secretive as them." Shane said.

"Hardly, I think what they've done is a lot worse."

"Kaitlyn, I know you're angry, so am I, but the only way that any of this is going to be sorted out is if we come clean and ask them to do the same."

"But... What if they try to split us up when they find out we know?" I asked, worried.

"If they were going to do that, they would have done it by now, your parents are already suspicious and mine probably recognised you. We have nothing to lose, they can't split us up even if they wanted to and chances are they're already thinking of ways to do that anyway."

"I guess so... But what if they make us move house to somewhere super far away or something?"

"We'll get jobs so we have the money to visit each other. They can't exactly lock you up and stop you from leaving the house." He reassured.

"I don't know what they're capable of after all this."

"Look at me Kaitlyn," he said with his hand gently caressing my cheek, "they might have made some massive mistakes but they're still our parents."

"Okay, lets go then before I change my mind."

So we made our way to my house, taking a deep breath as we approached my front door hand in hand. That's when we realised that the door was already slightly ajar and the once fluffy white carpet was now adorned with ruby droplets of blood.

My hand instinctively went to cover my gasping mouth as Shane quietly pushed the door open, revealing an unconscious body on the floor of my hallway.
