Chapter Fifteen - Kaitlyn

2050

Dozens of questions raced around in my mind but one of the most prominent ones was, "what will I wear?"

How could I choose a suitable outfit if I didn't know where we were going? I wasn't usually fussed about my attire, but I didn't want Shane to think that I didn't care enough to make an effort. I did care, I cared a lot.

"Maybe if I wait until the morning to choose my outfit, I will be more calm and therefore more able to." I thought to myself. When I woke up in the morning, it suddenly dawned on me that it didn't matter what I wore, I could show him I cared in other ways. Relying on my outfit to express my emotions would be stupid, that's what words are for. So I just slid on some pale blue jeans and a white t-shirt with a thin pink cardigan and my pink daps.

"Bye Mum, bye Dad, I'm just meeting a friend, I shouldn't be back too late." I called out as I walked towards the door once I was ready to leave. My Mum stepped out of the living room, still in her fluffy blue dressing gown with her hair scruffily tied back. Her nose was slightly red, and screwed up tissues were spilling out of her pockets; she had had a cold for the last two nights. As cruel as it was, I almost laughed when she spoke because she sounded so odd when she was all bunged up. "Oh okay, I hope you have fun sweety!" Smiling, I replied, "I'm sure I will Mum, I hope you get better soon."

I opened the door, stepped into the sunshine and made my way to the zebra crossing.
