Chapter Twenty Seven

2041

With his new found health and strength, Jamie sprinted to the spot where Paul was standing and they ran together to the edge of the roof.

After judging the distance to be longer than they expected, they took a few steps backwards- preparing for a run up.

Glancing at each other for a split second, they gave each other a silent "good luck".

Hearts racing and adrenaline pumping, they pushed themselves off the roof- a chasm of darkness beneath them.

Their stomachs dropped as they soared through the air. Seconds felt like years, a few meters felt like a mile.

Neither of the two turned their heads to see the other, from fear that the distraction would make them fall to their deaths. Both pairs of eyes were set on the goal, the aim, the destination they were so desperate to reach. Both faces were hard, blank, focused.

They couldn't afford to think of anything else. Not the past, not the future, just the present.

And with a thud they landed.

Paul landed on his stomach, barely making it. But Jamie miraculously landed on his feet, a look of triumph and pride on his face that complimented Paul's look of astonishment and amazement.

They both burst into fits of laughter, not quite believing what had just happened.

They made it.

They made the jump.
