Chapter Twenty - Kaitlyn

2050

I ran into my house, shouting "Don't worry, it's only me. I'm just changing, we got caught in the rain." When I reached my room, I removed my drenched clothes (after ensuring that my curtains were shut) and rummaged around in my wardrobe with one thought in mind "what will keep me warm?"

I grabbed a pair of joggers and a hoody that I always wore when I was ill and in need of a lazy day, but then thought, "wait, I'll look a right state, that won't do." So instead I grabbed a pair of jeans and a cosy, pale blue jumper.

Noticing my hair was continuously dripping all over my carpet, I grabbed a towel from my small on-suite bathroom and starting dabbing my hair dry and then quickly dried my body. Once I was dry and dressed and my hair was brushed, I picked up a towel for Shane. Conscious of keeping him waiting, I ran down the stairs and (after tripping over a newspaper that was carelessly chucked on the bottom step) I grabbed an umbrella and chucked on a pair of boots.

I walked out the door and the sound of it closing attracted Shane's attention. He watched as I walked down the path towards him and I was secretly grateful that I had tripped inside and not whilst he was looking at me. Imagine that, tripping over right in front of him, he would have thought I was a complete fool.

When I reached him, I threw the towel at him and apologised for not owning any male clothes for him to change into. I grabbed some of his shirt to see how wet it was and it really was soaked right through!

In that moment, a thought flashed through my mind like a lightning bolt; there one second and gone the next. Well, it was more of an image than a thought. An image of me clutching Shane's dripping shirt, pulling him close and kissing him in the rain.

It startled me, really startled me. Not because I didn't like what I saw but because it seemed so real. I wasn't just watching from the sidelines, I was living it.

I could feel the warmth of his lips on mine and the contrasting coolness of his nose.

I could feel the rain spitting down on my cheeks, giving the same effect as pins and needles.

I could feel the softness of his large hands as they brushed my hair from my face and made me forget all about the sharpness of the rain.

"What the hell?" I thought to myself, "what the hell was that?"

"Are you okay?" Shane asked, looking worried. Both of his hands were holding either side of my face as he looked into my eyes.

"Yeah, I'm fine, why?"

"You just completely froze and stared blankly into space, did I do something wrong?" He asked as he took a step back, like he thought being near me offended me.

"What? No, you've done nothing," I assured him, stepping towards him and closing the space between us, "I just thought I saw something but I was imagining it."

"What did you think you saw?" He asked, still looking concerned.

"Umm... A bat."

"A bat?" He asked, smirking.

"Yeah, obviously there wasn't one, it's the middle of the day, silly me." I said, forcing a laugh.

He seemed to relax a little as I spoke, but he was still visibly tense, I must have really freaked him out. I smiled at him and playfully punched his arm as I said "C'mon, lets go, before you get hypothermia."

As we walked, I tried to figure out what was happening to me. I came to the conclusion that I must just be imagining things. My brain ached wondering why I saw what I saw and I have to admit, my heart ached a little too; it longed for his touch and his lips.
