Michael and Calum made an agreement after Joy left the room, that they would stay as far away as possible from each other during the week. If Michael was in the living room, Calum would stay shut in his room. If Calum was going to go out, Michael decided to stay in, they had the same friend group and would end up around each other.
"Also," Calum growled. "You aren't allowed on my room unless you're sleeping, okay?"
"Yeah, yeah, whatever." Michael mumbled, holding his hands above his head and wandered downstairs. As soon as he left, Joy came back into the room, wearing a stern expression.
"Are you being nice Cal?"
"Of course I am," Calum replied. "Well, as nice as I can. It's difficult to be nice to someone that you hate."
"Hate's a strong word Calum," Joy told her son, placing her hands on her hips. "You strongly dislike each other."
"Mum, that's the definition of hate."
"Don't get smart with me child." Joy said, trying to stay stern but couldn't hide the grin that spread onto her face.
"So you're saying you want a dumb child," Calum retorted. "Michael sounds like a good candidate."
"Calum! Be nice." Joy hissed, smacking his shoulder. Calum grinned and ran out of the room, leaving his mother shaking her head at her son. She swore that mentally he was 7, not 17.
---------------------------------------------"It's my Xbox!" Calum growled hours later, standing in front of the screen.
"Well, I'm playing it!" Michael argued. "I'm playing your game and levelling you up, you should be thanking me. Not get out of the way!"
"I should be thanking you, for what? Being a gamer who has no other outstanding talents, if you can even call this a talent!"
"You're the one who thinks everyone should love you cause you're a good football player." Michael spat, placing the controller on his lap after he died.
"I don't think that!" Calum retorted defensively, folding his arms across his chest.
"You do so. I see you after matches, soaking up all the attention that you get because you score one fucking goal!"
"You're one to talk about loving attention. You deliberately make sure the attention is always on you because if it's not your oversized ego wouldn't be able to handle it!"
"I'd rather be egotistical than insecure about stupid shit. Are you really complaining because I like myself?"
"You're the only person who does!" Calum spat.
"So Luke, Ashton, Thomas, Ryan and the others are all, what exactly?" Michael smirked. "You're just jealous because everyone likes me more."
"This is the reason I hate you! You think far too highly of yourself and you're so goddamn stubborn because of that! No one can argue a valid point against you because you don't listen!" Calum shouted, finally letting his temper that had been bubbling under the surface since Michael got there erupt.
"I'm stubborn? You can't even share you're Xbox for three seconds because "it's yours" and apparently you're the only person that matters. You're playing the victim because I'm here and you don't like that but I'm the one who's mother went on holiday without them and left me with you!" Michael was now on his feet, red in the face, with his fists clenched by his side.
"You're feeling sorry for yourself!" Calum yelled.
"And you're being a fucking hypocrite!" Michael yelled back. "You think that you're the only one who hates this arrangement but I hate it just as much as you do, if not more. So shut the fuck up and get out of my face!"
"WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON IN HERE!"
Both boys spin round to see Joy standing in the doorway with her hands on her hips, glaring at them. Michael's fists automatically unclenched and Calum suddenly became extremely fascinated by his shoes.
"Why did I hear you two yelling at each other from the end of the garden? What are you even arguing about, I was gone for 2 minutes?"
"Calum started it," Michael replied childishly, hanging his head when Joy shot him a glare.
"I told you to keep a civil tongue Calum," Joy snapped. "And I assume your mother did too." Michael nodded slowly, not daring to look her in the eyes. It was the first time Calum had seen him look scared of someone who was yelling at him. But then, his mother was terrifying when she was mad.
"You'd think I'd be able to leave two 17 year old alone in a house without any trouble, but here I am!"
Calum awkwardly shuffled his feet, catching her eye for a moment and then looking away again. Any tension between him and Michael had suddenly disappeared as soon as his mother started yelling at them. Though he was going to maintain the opinion that it was Michaels fault no matter how much Michael blamed him.
"You're both going to apologise for what you said, yes I heard all of it, and then you're both going to play on the Xbox, if you still want to, without fighting."
"Mum.." Calum groaned, but trailed off. He didn't want to make matters worse for himself. "I'm sorry Michael."
"I'm sorry too Calum." Michael said through gritted teeth. They looked at Joy, who raised her eyebrows and they sighed and shook hands, gripping slightly too tightly and glaring at each other. As soon as Joy left the room, they moved away from each other and sat on opposite ends of the couch, grabbing a controller each.
"We could both play C.O.D but I would totally destroy you so how about we play FIFA?" Michael said in a slightly strained voice, obviously trying very hard to be nice.
"Yeah," Calum replied in an equally strained voice that sounded nothing like him. He really wanted to say that it was his house and it should be him asking but that would start another argument and he didn't want to face his mother's wrath again.
----------------------------------------------"You cheated!" Michael exclaimed, throwing his controller down. "I want a rematch."
"Sorry, but I won fair and square Clifford." Calum smirked, jumping up and down on some weird victory dance.
"You're just scared that I'll beat you if we play again," Michael sulked, pouting at Calum.
"I'm FIFA champion," Calum said smugly. "Surely the boys told you that."
"You went on at me for being bigheaded," Michael muttered.
"I heard that," Calum shouted, continuing to dance around the room.
"You must have good hearing to hear that from that closet you're trapped in."
"Ha Ha, very funny." Calum deadpanned, stopping his victory dance and shooting Michael a glare. He stuck his hands in the air, surrendering.
"I swear I'm not going to say anything. I may hate you, but not that much."
"Glad to hear it."
AN- I don't know a thing about video games so if anything is wrong I'm sorry, not that there's much included about the actual video games.
