"Calum, will you please stop running away from me?"
Calum stopped dead in his tracks and sighed, turning round to face Michael with a shaky smile.
"I wasn't." He replied quickly, avoiding eye contact.
"Bullshit. You've been avoiding me for weeks Cal." Michael said more irritably than he meant to. Calum bit his lip and shuffled his feet, grimacing at Michaels tone.
"I have not."
"That's a fucking lie and you know it." Michael snapped. "Not that I'm bothered, but I would like to talk to Ashton sometimes."
"I'm not stopping you. I'm not going to force him to avoid you too." Calum shot back, finally looking up at Michael.
"So you are avoiding me. I understood when you thought it was me who told the whole school but you fucking know it was Nathan so why are you still not talking to me?"
"I thought you said you weren't bothered." Calum argued.
"I'm not."
"It doesn't sound like it."
"For fucks sake Calum, will you stop being so childish." Michael spat, shooting him an angry glare.
"You're the one throwing a fucking tantrum because I won't talk to you." Calum retorted.
"I just think it's a bit shitty of you to blame me for something I didn't do and then not fucking apologise."
"Oh my god, so that's what this is about." Calum laughed humourlessly, running his hand through his hair. "Who else was I suppose to blame Michael! I thought Nathan was in New Zealand and you haven't exactly given me good reason to trust you for the last 5 years!"
"Oh, so I'm the one to blame as fucking usual!" Michael snapped, glaring at Calum. "Who was it who called me a dick after I had said 3 fucking sentences?"
"Because you fucking were, and still are."
"I've kept two fucking secrets for you Calum. TWO! If I was such a fucking dick, I would have told your mum you were gay and told the whole fucking school about your Dad before Nathan could ever think about it but did I?"
"Surely after all we've been through recently you would've learned something." Michael added angrily before walking away, flipping Calum off as he did. Calum watched him walk away with a scowl on his face.
How the fuck was he suppose to apologise now?
---------------------------------------------Ashton dropped into the seat next to Calum in IceDream, pushing a Mint Chocolate Mountain towards him with a frown.
"What's up Calum?" He asked gently as he watched Calum play with his food but not eat it.
"Michael." Calum replied grumpily, swirling the ice cream round the bowl. "We got into a fight today at school, a massive one and now I'm never going to be able to apologise to him now."
"I'm sure it wasn't that bad." Ashton said comfortingly, doubting his own words. It was Michael and Calum he was talking about, their track record worked against them.
"Wasn't it?" Calum groaned. "I pretty much called him an untrustworthy dick."
"I'm sure you didn't mean it."
"Of course I didn't, but I still said it. He was just standing there, telling me how shitty I am and that he deserves an apology, calling me out for calling him a dick when we were 12 and I lost my temper. He was being a nippy git and I lost it." Calum explained in a low voice.
"Well, if he was being-"
"Stop. I know what you're going to say and usually I would agree but not this time. After everything I've put Michael through for the last couple of weeks he deserves to have a little rant about it. I would be angry too." Calum sat with his head in his hands, shaking his head as he thought about the conversation he'd had with Michael. "What have I done Ash?"
"Look, maybe you should forget about it for a bit, get a good's night sleep tonight and we'll tackle the issue of Michael tomorrow when you've both had a chance to calm down."
"Forget about it? I can't just forget about it. It's Michael. He invades my thoughts every second of the fucking day, like he's been permanently imprinted on my brain. Every conversation we have replays over in my head Ashton, I can't switch that off." Calum told him irritably before he shoved a spoonful of ice cream in his mouth.
"If Michael means that much to you, maybe you could just apologise. What do you have to lose Cal? He already hates you."
"You don't understand Ashton. I wanted my apology to come across as sincere because I am sincere. I really am sorry for blaming him when it was really Nathan all along. That's not going to happen now Mr I'm-The-Victim has told me he wants an apology, it'll just seem like I'm doing it to appear good. I don't want him to think I'm apologising because he told me to."
"I see the dilemma now."
The two of them sat in silence for a couple of minutes as they thought of how they could resolve the problem, the only sound coming from their spoons scraping the bottom of the bowls and Calum sighing every so often.
"Nothing. I've come up with nothing." Ashton exclaimed once he'd finished his ice cream. "And I've got brain freeze."
"Press your tongue to the top of your mouth, it should help." Calum said, placing his spoon down in his bowl. "This is a mess Ash. A big mess."
"You're entire relationship with Michael has always been a mess Calum."
"I didn't want him to like me then though. I knew where I stood with him and I knew what to say to him. I don't know either now." Calum sighed, looking down at his interlocked fingers sadly. Ashton frowned and ran his hand through his hair.
"The only thing I can think of suggesting right now is to talk to him about the issues you've had with each other in the past. Sort out your differences and more importantly, tell him how you feel."
Calum gulped nervously but nodded. Better late than never.
You aren't ready for this and neither am I.
I'm also really sorry that this is being updated at 11 when its supposed to be Monday afternoon.
I'm only a few hours late #betterlaterthannever
