It's been about a year since I killed Garmin. Cal got out of the hospital about five months ago and he's still experiencing some loss of his powers. Cal died after I killed Garmin, but I was able to bring him back to life with my powers. I can't say I'm complaining, though. He can't read my mind, but I feel bad for him.
The Monstruum Infectores (MI) took down another monster who tried to rise from the ashes but she just had to be struck in the heart. I'm in a training room right now fighting a hologram I set up with the computer. Cal's off doing Zeus knows what trying to get his powers back, and Sam's probably helping him.
I fight the holograms to clear my mind of random stuff. Like, for instance, I left Tristan in jail a year back, or that Cal seems always angry because his powers are gone. Anything ranging between that. I'm brought back to reality as the hologram knocks me to the ground.
I jump up and kick it in the chest which makes it fall down. I knock it unconscious then turn it off. I leave the training room and go over to the now built cafeteria. I grab an apple and quickly eat it.
Trauno, the head of the MI, walks up to me as I throw away the apple.
"I need to see you and Cal in my office," she says. "Where is he?"
"I dunno," I shrug. "I'll go look for him."
"Okay," Trauno replies. "Go to my office once you find him."
I nod then walk off to look for Cal. After awhile of looking I find him and Sam in one of the empty rooms. It looks as if Sam is about to hit him in the head with a pan they stole from the kitchen. I run up to them and take the pan out of Sam's grasp.
"Hey!" he exclaims.
"Are you two idiots?" I demand. "It isn't gonna work like it hasn't worked the past 5 times!"
Cal sighs.
"Whatever," he says. "What can we help you with?"
"Trauno needs to see us," I reply. "Not you, Sam. Sorry."
He lets out an elephant groan then takes the pan back. He walks out of the room towards the kitchen. He's been itching to get a mission like the ones Cal and I get, but he keeps getting stuck with small things like mopping the floor. It's only been a year since he came here, and most people still don't completely trust him.
"It could've worked that time, "Cal mumbles.
"You two are acting like five year olds!" I exclaim. "Just be more patient."
"I've been patient," Cal hisses. "I've only got the smallest bit of my powers back."
I roll my eyes then grab Cal's arm. I start pulling him towards Trauno's office, telling him he's being a baby and that his powers will come back. I open the door to Trauno's office and walk in.
"Took you long enough," she mutters.
Clearly things are very tense around here.
"Anyway," Trauno says, clearing her throat. "Another monster is rising for his first time."
"Who is it?" I ask.
"We don't know what he calls himself," she replies. "We call him It."
"It?" Cal asks. "Isn't that the one that's been threatening the gods for centuries?"
"Yeah," Trauno replies. "He's always trying to make sacrifices, and he's been threatening to sacrifice the gods for hundreds of years. Now he's actually making a move."
"How do we kill It?" I ask.
"We need a human," Trauno says. "They've gotta be male. But we can't just go and tell anyone we want because they could be working with him."
I'm silent for a minute.
"I know someone," I speak up.
Trauno raises an eyebrow.
"Oh no," Cal says. "Not that guy."
"It may take me awhile to find him, though," I continue. "I need some security cameras for alleys and stuff.
"Not that guy," Cal groans again.
"Who are you even talking about?" Trauno asks.
"Tristan," I reply. "He got outta jail a bit ago and I have no doubt he's still doing what he's doing."
"And he already knows?" Trauno questions.
"He knows parts of everything," I reply.
"Fine," she says. "Go look at the security cameras."
I walk out of Trauno's office with Cal following me. I go over to some of the security cameras and watch the tapes all at once. Finally, I recognize the familiarness of Tristan. I stand up and grab my leather jacket and put it on.
I start walking towards the door then glance back at Cal with a raised eyebrow and a smirk.
"Coming?" I ask him, opening the front door.
