Morgan's POV
********
We're back at the factory with only about 110 soldiers from the battle. Thank Zeus it's over. I can't imagine what would happen if Tristan hadn't finally killed Fongratch. He's getting his wounds checked out right now and I'm heading over to visit Sam. The room he is in is closer than Cal's so it's my first stop. I get to the doorway and walk in. He looks at me and smiles a bit.
"Hey," he says. "Are you okay?"
He's probably looking at the wounds on my face, neck, and arms. Not to mention Adam's blood all over my shirt.
"Yeah," I reply. "How are you doing?"
"I feel great," Sam answers. "The doctors said I'll probably get out a day or so early. But, enough about me, how did the battle go?"
"Fongratch is dead," I say. "We lost a lot of people through all of this, but Tristan killed him."
Sam's smile widens.
"I shouldn't be smiling at someone's death," he says. "But, this guy is the most likely reason that my best friend is in here with serious wounds. And he's the reason for hundreds of deaths."
"Yeah," I respond. "Ya'know, for a giant monster planning and was succeeding in taking over the world, he was really stupid."
"How so?" Sam asks, raising an eyebrow.
"He gave me the thing that apparently holds his power of being a giant monster."
"Wow," Sam replies. "That's the smartest thing anyone could do. How did he manage to even make it that far?"
"Who knows?" I say, smiling. "I guess he just wasn't the brightest bulb in the box."
"Have you visited Cal?"
"Not yet. I'm visiting him after you."
"I heard him yelling at the doctors from down the hall," Sam says. "About the stupid medicine and the stupid med center and his stupid room and how he wanted to get out of here. Plus a few swear words."
I laugh.
"Did Bella come to see you?" I ask.
"No," Sam answers. "I saw her walk past and look in here, though. So... that's... an... improvement."
"Yeah, sure," I say. "I'm gonna go now. See you."
"Bye," he replies.
I turn and leave his room. I walk down the hall and to Cal's room. There are many people here, most of them in rooms. We sometimes have to use one of the training rooms for medical attention areas and this is one of those times. Mostly everyone who came back needed medical attention and almost all of those people had to stay in the med center. I got a couple kind of bad wounds, but nothing life threatening. I get to Cal's room and walk in to see him staring at the ceiling, unmoving.
"Cal?" I say in a questioning tone.
I see his chest moving up and down in quick breaths.
"Cal?" I repeat.
"Don't move," he says.
"What?" I ask. "Why-"
"Don't you see him?" Cal interrupts.
I look around. No one's here. I look back at Cal. What meds is he on?
"Who?" I question.
"Just look," Cal replies. "He's standing right there."
Cal gestures to behind me. This is really freaking me out. I slowly look behind me; no one's there. A nurse walks by the door so I quickly get her attention.
"What medication is he on?" I ask. "He's-"
I stop when I hear a crash behind me. I spin around and see a hole in the wall and Cal sitting up. How did he do that?
"We just put him on the normal things," she replies. "Pain killers."
"Cal," I say. "Who are you seeing?"
He looks over at me with questioning eyes.
"Can you not see him?" he demands then bolts his head back to staring at nothingness.
I turn to the nurse to see her leaving. Uh... She comes back a couple moments later with a needle and some sort of liquid. She puts the liquid in the needle and quietly walks up to the fear-ridden Cal, sitting on the side of the bed. What is that? She sticks the needle in his arm and puts the liquid in his arm. Cal doesn't flinch or move. After a minute, he falls to his side, unconcious.
"What was that?" I ask.
"Just something to make him sleep." the nurse replies. "It should have him be more calm when he wakes up. We'll get him different medicine to take other than the ones he takes now. You can stay here if you'd like, but he won't wake up for about thirty minutes or so."
"Okay," I say, looking over at Cal. "Thank you."
The nurse quickly positions Cal on the bed so he isn't half hanging off of it then leaves. I slowly walk over to the chair by the bed, looking around, double checking that there isn't actually a person there. As I saw before, there isn't anyone there. I sit down in the chair and watch Cal sleep, which sounds creepy, but it's not. Well, it would be, if we were somewhere else.
He's gonna be so angry when he wakes up that they knocked him out.
*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*
It's been about 28 minutes since Cal was knocked out so he should be waking up soon. The weird thing is, I'm pretty sure that he's been on the same medicine for the past two days. Why would he just start imagining a person? And who was he imagining? He seemed pretty scared at their "presence" so it probably wasn't some random person he's never seen. My first thought is Avail Firi, but that doesn't make any sense. He usually appears and other people can see him. I think. I hope it wasn't Avail Firi. It's one thing to target me but it's another thing to target the people I care about. He already tried to turn me against Tristan, or something like that. How did Avail Firi even know how Tristan looks? Probably because he's a god.
These aren't memories I like remembering. I know it was all Avail Firi, but he used Tristan's face. It felt like it was Tristan. In that moment, it was Tristan almost beating me to death. It was Tristan almost raping me. All those things were him in that moment. And it's a hard thing to get over. And now, Avail Firi may be torturing the person I love most.
I snap myself out of my thoughts when I see Cal opening his eyes. I put my hand on his as he blinks up at the ceiling. He looks over at me. He sits up and flinches in pain. How is he even able to do that? His wounds are bad, so he shouldn't be able to move this much. He looks over at me and I can see tears in his eyes. I've only seen him like this one other time. He grabs me and pulls me into a hug. I lightly put my arms around him, not wanting to open any of his wounds.
"I love you," he says. "I love you, I love you, I love you."
"I love you, too," I reply. "What's wrong?"
"Promise me something," Cal says. "Promise me you'll never leave."
I stare at his bowed head, because he's looking at the ground, and I see a tear fall from his face. I put a finger under his chin and make him look at me.
"I promise."
