Tristan's POV
One week later
________
"You idiot!" I exclaim, throwing my arms up.
"That's the truest thing I've ever said," Cal replies.
"How is it my fault?" I demand. "It isn't my fault!"
"Yes it is!"
"How is everything blamed on me?" I question. "I haven't done anything wrong, but somehow, someway I have to take the fault!"
"That's because it always is-" Cal stops, looking behind me. "Mother of Zeus."
I turn around to see what he's looking at.
"Mother of Zeus," I repeat.
There, where Cal is looking, is Morgan collapsed on the floor. Her clothes are torn, her shirt almost completely falling off. Both Cal and I run towards her. I slide onto my knees and press two fingers against her wrist.
"There's a pulse," I breathe. "We need to get her to the med center."
Cal picks Morgan up and heads to the med center. I follow.
"I love you," he whispers into Morgans hair. "I love you, Mo. Hold on for me. I love you. I love you. I love you. Hold on for me, baby."
We get to the med center and I call to a couple of the doctors. They get a room ready for Morgan and Cal sets her on the bed.
"You guys can't be in here," the doctor says. "Get out."
I back out of the room. How can she be here? What happened to her? What did Avail Firi do to her? I look in through a window. There are burn marks everywhere on her, bruises everywhere, cuts, blood. She has bruises around her wrists, which means she must've been chained up or something.
Why would anyone want to do this to her? I stand there staring into the window the whole time the doctors are working, Cal next to me.
After awhile, the doctor comes out.
"She's in stable condition now," he says. "She's asleep but you can go in there if you'd like."
I nod my head and the doctor leaves. I follow closely behind Cal, who's been silent this whole time, into the room. Cal sits down in a chair next to Morgan's bed and watches her with a worry filled gaze.
"I can't believe this happened..." I say.
How could I let this happen? I should've done something when I realized she was gone all those days ago.
"You really should've," Cal says.
"What?" I question.
Cal takes his gaze away from Morgan.
"You should've done something when you noticed she was gone all those days ago," he replies, looking back at Morgan.
"What- oh, right," I say. "Mind reader."
We're both silent for a moment.
"But I should've been there for her," Cal says.
"There's nothing you could've done."
He sighs but is silent. After a few minutes, he gets up and starts heading for the door.
"I'm gonna go ask a doctor about her injuries," he says, then leaves.
I walk up to Morgan and squat beside the bed. Suddenly her eyes bolt open and she sits straight upwards.
"No, no, no," I say. "Morgan, lay back down. Doing that'll make your wounds hurt more."
She blinks a couple times then looks over at me. Her eyes widen and she holds her hands out defensively in front of her.
"Whoa, Morgan," I say, cautiously. "It's okay, it's just me. You're safe now."
Cal comes through the door and takes in the scene.
"Tristan," he hisses. "I was gone two minutes! What did you do?"
"Nothing!" I say.
Cal runs over to Morgan.
"Mo," he says. "What's wrong?"
Morgan grabs Cal's arm, still holding her other hand out protectively with alarm in her eyes.
"What happened?" Cal demands.
Morgan takes her gaze away from me to him.
"He-I," she stutters then points to her head. "Just look."
Cal nods and has a strange look on his face. Probably reading her mind. His eyes widen and he looks at me.
"What?" I demand.
Cal just looks back at Morgan.
"When did that happen?" He asks softly.
"When I was taken," she replies.
Whatever they're talking about, it isn't gonna end well for me. I know that sounds narcissistic but it's true. Morgan looks back at me and puts her hand up defensively.
"Morgan," Cal speaks softly to her. "That couldn't have been him. He was here the whole time."
"What in the name of the gods are you talking about?" I ask.
"She's scared for her life, Tristan," Cal says. "Something was there with your face."
"Oh my gods," I say. "Morgan it wasn't me."
Crap.
"It could've been Avail Firi," Cal says.
"No," Morgan replies. "It wasn't Avail Firi."
"Either way," Cal says. "You need to lay back down. You'll open up some of your old wounds."
Morgan looks back at me cautiously.
"I'll leave," I say, walking out the door.
I don't wanna leave, but I have to. She clearly doesn't want me or can have me around her right now. Probably not anytime soon. She's scared of me. That's what hurts. Why would anyone do that to her? She trusted me and then someone used my face to get to her. And I don't even know what they did to her.
I look up just in time to see Bella before I crash into her.
"Sorry, Bella," I say.
"It's okay," she replies.
"Are you going to see Morgan?" I ask.
Bella nods.
"Do you wanna come with me?" She asks.
"Well, I was there and..." I start. "Something happened where she was and... Well, it isn't a good idea for me to be around her."
Bella raises an eyebrow at me.
"I'm gonna...go," I say.
I continue to walk. I need to get out of here. I walk towards the door out and leave the factory. I take in a deep breath of air and let it out in a long sigh.
Life, you suck.
