It's been a few days and I'm currently with Cal and Tristan, walking in between them so they don't kill each other. It took awhile of talking and a few shocks to the chest to make them not jump on each other.
Right now they're shooting each other murderous glares. Any second until they'll break out into fighting. Again.
"What're you staring at?" Tristan demands.
Ugh.
"An insignificant troll," Cal replies.
Ugh.
"Me? Insignificant?" Tristan questions. "Please."
"What, you aren't? That's not obvious. At least you know you're a troll."
"Look in the mirror," Tristan snorts. "And there you have the troll."
"Your comebacks suck," Cal rolls his eyes. "At least come up with something better. Oh, wait. Your brain doesn't function well enough."
"Guys," I say. "Stop."
They both ignore me.
"That was the worst thing I've heard," Tristan shoots back. "Where'd you get it? Your mother?"
Cal's eyes darken. Oh no.
"I should just kill you where you stand," he hisses.
"You are a complete lunatic," Tristan says. "I don't know what she sees in you."
He jerks his head towards me.
"More than what there is in you," Cal narrows his eyes. "I'm not just some filthy thief."
Cal spits out the word thief like it's poison.
"Oh, there's much more than just a thief," Tristan snarls. "There's a killer inside. And I would use that, especially for you."
"For Zeus's sake!" I exclaim. "Stop!"
"Give your best shot," Cal hisses.
Tristan's eyes are filled with anger and he looks like he's about to lunge. But then his gaze switches to surprise and fear and a few other emotions I can't tell. He turns away from Cal, a hand on his head. Cal raises an eyebrow.
Tristan starts walking away.
"That's what I thought," Cal mutters.
Tristan must've been having another flashback. I give Cal an angry glare.
"Why don't you ever listen to me?" I sigh.
"I do," Cal replies. "But I didn't start it that time."
"It doesn't matter! You pushed a bit too far this time, Cal."
"I didn't do anything," he snorts. "I don't know what Tristan's problem was but that wasn't me."
"I know that wasn't you," I hiss. "But, seriously. If you can't get along with him just don't talk. I love you, you know that, but this has gone too far. He has his own problems without having to deal with you."
I turn away from Cal and start after Tristan.
"Mo," Cal says.
I don't look behind me. I follow where Tristan walked and find him in an empty room. He stands there with his head against the wall, staring at the ground.
"Are you okay..?" I ask, walking towards him.
Tristan shakes his head. I rub his back with my hand in a sign of some sort of comfort. Tristan looks over at me. I can see visible hurt and pain in his eyes.
"What did you see?" I ask quietly.
"My parents in the car..." Tristan trails off. "The semi... And then all of a sudden it swerving into us. The-the blood."
He covers his eyes with his hand.
"I..." he trails off.
He removes his hand from his eyes. I now see tears in his bloodshot eyes.
"You don't have to tell me the rest," I murmur.
"I should," Tristan says. "I should tell you everything that really happened, and not just parts."
"Tristan-"
"I'm telling you," he cuts me off. "So, it started off like any normal Wednesday. We were gonna go to the store to get food. I always went along with them, so I did that day, too. We were driving down a pretty much empty road where it was having a bit of construction. So, we were driving along, and the windows were open to get air flowing through the car. So, suddenly..."
Tristan takes a deep breath then slides down the wall into a sitting position. I sit down next to him.
"Suddenly a big semi truck came up from another street and... And slammed into the side of our car."
Tristan wipes at his eyes again.
"The car spun around and I was thrown from it. I had skimmed the pavement and hit my head on a sign as I went into a bag filled with something on the side of the road. My parents weren't so lucky."
I can see tears running down Tristan's face with his eyes squeezed closed, as if remembering the day.
"The car had continued to spin and..." he continues. "And it hit one of the empty machines. My parents... W-were impaled by the sharp edges. I saw the blood running out of the car, and it splatter out the window..." Tristan looks over at me, pure sorrow and pain in his eyes. "And somehow, someway, I had gotten out of it alive. Not my parents. I would've given my life for theirs in a heartbeat. They meant everything to me, and... And I wish I could've done something... Before it was too late."
"Tristan..." I trail off. "I'm so sorry..."
"I didn't tell you that as a pity story," he replies. "Don't apologize or say I have your condolence. That doesn't help at all."
Tristan wipes his eyes again.
"Sorry," he sighs. "I just, I've never told anybody that before."
I nod my head.
"I'm here for you, Tristan," I murmur.
"I know you are, Morgan," Tristan sighs then closes his eyes and leans his head back against the wall. "And thank you for that."
*****
Hey guys. Thanks for reading this far and into Tristan's past. I cried as I was writing the ends of it this chapter. I've actually been really emotional with this book. I have big plans that I don't know if I can go through with. But, anyway. I wanted to say, some people may be thinking, "It was a semi truck! How could somebody survive that?"
Well, settle down children. Listen to a story I have for you. It is indeed possible to survive such a hit.
One day, we were driving in a car and I saw a car get hit with a semi truck. Big big truck. The car was really beat up and was totaled. Everything was like, destroyed. I stared at that scene disbelieving.
And then both front doors open and the people get out, unharmed. UN FREAKING HARMED. So, yeah. That's my story. It is possible for someone to survive being hit by a semi truck. If they're in a car. I dunno about if they were walking an then got hit. But, still. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy the rest of this book and then the one to come.
