I leave the cafeteria and go into a hallway with less people in it.
"What do you want?" I ask.
"It's your father," my stepmother, Matilda's her name, says.
"You mean my father as in the one you know?" I question.
I hate how people call him my father.
"Yes," Matilda says. "He died."
I'm silent so she continues.
"He went to join another monster's army," she says.
"What monster," I ask plainly.
"Fongratch," Matilda says.
"Who?" I ask.
"Your little group knows him as It," she explains. "Fongratch's army thought he was an enemy and killed him."
"And why are you telling me this?"
"I want you to meet with me and come to the funeral," Matilda says. "Your father always loved you."
That sends me over the edge.
"What?" I hiss. "You want me to go to his funeral? Meet up with you? Never! He never loved me! If he did, he would've cared for me! Why are you just caring now?"
"We've always cared-" Matilda starts.
"Oh, please!" I cut her off. "You were only trying to raise me so I wouldn't kill Garmin and we both know that's true!"
The few people in the hallway look at me with questioning faces.
"That's not true, Morgan," she says. "We cared."
"Since when?" I almost yell. "Since I became powerful? Since I took down Garmin? Since when I got the power to kill you? Leave me alone! I don't ever want to see your ugly face again! Or ever hear your voice again! Don't come looking for me, because I swear on my father Zeus you'll end up with that bastard!"
I hang up and shove the phone back into my pocket. I angrily walk down the hallway and jump when I almost run right into Cal.
"Whoa, whoa," he says. "What's wrong?"
"She called me," I say.
Cal's eyes have a look of understanding.
"What did she say?" Cal asks.
"The bastard died," I say.
"Are you okay?" Cal asks.
"I'm furious!" I almost yell. "She said that he loved me and that they both cared about me!"
"How did he die?" Cal asks quizzically.
"He wanted to join It's army," I sigh. "That's where it gets interesting."
"How so?"
"She called It Fongratch," I explain. "She says that's its name."
"Fongratch?" Cal questions.
I nod.
"I have to tell Trauno about that," I sigh.
"I can come with you."
"Why would I need you to come with?" I demand.
"You seem angry," Cal shrugs.
"I'm fine," I roll my eyes. "I'll see you once I'm done talking to her."
"I'll be waiting," Cal says, turning away from me.
I quickly go to Trauno's office and knock on the door.
