I finally find Cal sitting against a wall with his eyes closed. I quickly take a seat next to him.

"Are you-" I begin.

"I'm fine," Cal interrupts.

"Do you wanna talk about it?" I ask.

"Why should I?" he demands. "It isn't like you're gonna care."

"Of course I care," I say. "Why would I be here if I didn't."

Cal shrugs, not meeting my gaze.

"Doesn't matter," he says finally.

"It's clearly bugging you," I say. "Tell me."

He sighs then looks over at me.

"I was kicked out of the orphanage because I accidentally killed one of the other kids," Cal begins. "My powers were acting up, because I was just getting them. And this kid was, like, bullying me and then... Suddenly blood came out of his ears and eyes. And then he was dead."

Cal lets out a long sigh before continuing.

"I was alone in a room with the kid," he says. "The heads of the orphanage got there, and I was still in there. They should've called the police or something, but they just kicked me out as fast as possible. That was why I was so vulnerable to Garmin."

I put a hand on top of Cal's. That must've really sucked to be kicked out of an orphanage at that young of age.

"Where's Tristan now?" Cal asks.

"He's being trained," I reply.  "By Stacy."

Cal lets out a laugh.

"I pity him," he says.

I laugh. I get up and look down at Cal who stares back up at me.

"Do you wanna be left alone or do you wanna get something to eat?" I ask.

Cal gets up off the floor.

"Food," he replies.

We walk towards the cafeteria and my phone starts to buzz. I look down to see I'm getting texts from an unknown number.

Is this Morgan? It says. I respond with who's this and get a text back almost immediately.

May. They say. I glance up at Cal who's staring at me curiously.

"How does May have my phone number?" I ask.

"Wait, what?" Cal says.

"May just texted me," I reply.

May was Cal's girlfriend when he was in Garmin's army. I haven't talked to her for almost a year.

"I've got no idea," Cal says.

"Do you still talk to her?" I ask.

"Not really," he answers.

I look back down at my phone to see, dude I'm calling.  My phone starts ringing so I pick it up.

"Morgan," May says.

"Why are you calling me?" I ask.

"It's easier for me to talk," May replies. "I'm in the middle of something."

"No," I say. "Not to sound rude, but why are you talking to me at all?"

"Because Cal won't answer his phone," May responds.

"So, do you wanna talk to him?" I ask.

"Yeah," May replies.

"Why?" I ask.
