Chapter 13

A/N: Oh my god sorry for such a long pause in between chapters! I went on vacation and then I just needed to rekindle some inspiration for this book but I'm back!

Mar'i and Zatanna had to share a bed for a couple days but eventually new furniture was brought into the condo. "Is Daddy becoming a police officer today?" Mar'i asked as holding her foot out as Zatanna tied the girls running shoes. Dick's graduation ceremony was today and he would be getting his badge. "Yes he is" she answered as the girl giggled.

So far everything had been working out. "Are we going to see him today Mommy?" She asked as Zatanna grimaced. Mommy. She had been feeling a little guilty being called that. Kori was Mar'i's mother not Zatanna and she just felt so wrong for stealing that name. She knew Kori hadn't remembered her daughter after the accident but to be called mommy?

Tying the last lace Mar'i stood up with a bright smile on her face. "Yeah we're going to see him now Mar'i" she answered. The girl pulled on the dark shades to cover her very peculiar eyes. She would be getting fit for special eye contacts soon. It was raining outside as they walked along the sidewalk hand in hand. Mar'i's running shoes were most likely soaked through by now.

She smiled hearing the little girl giggled every time she splashed in a puddle. The place where the ceremony was being held was just another block. "Is Christmas coming soon?" Mar'i asked as they walked inside of the building. There were many seats that had name cards on them. Every officer was allowed as many as four family members to attend the ceremony.

Dick refused to make a big deal of it and gave the other two seats to another officer. "Yes baby it is now shush" Zatanna whispered in a hushed voice. Mar'i was a very talkative little girl ever since the incident. When Dick's name was called he went to get his badge. "Yay Daddy!" Mar'i yelled as everyone in the audience chuckled.

The little girl just didn't want to stay put. Before Zatanna could grab her she jumped off of her chair and ran on stage. Dick gave her a hug with a warm smile on his face. "Good job" Mar'i said kissing his cheek happily as he picked her up. Even for a ten year old she was still very childish. Dick encouraged her childish ways though.

After all he got his stripped away from him at her age. When the ceremony was over Zatanna had her hands on her hips. "Mar'i you know you can't run off like that" she scolded as the girl buried her face into Dick's neck. "Relax Zee she was just excited" he said as the woman rolled her blue eyes at him. "This calls for a celebratory dinner. What do you say we go to that awesome restaurant you like by the condo?" He asked as Zee shrugged.

It was still raining but then again it was Gotham after all. Zee had the hood over her rain jacket pulled up over her face. Mar'i's rain jacket was purple with pink flowers over it. "Guess what Mommy and I did today?" Mar'i said as Dick smiled brightly. "I don't know sunshine how about you tell me?" He asked as she giggled and nodded. To everyone else around them they looked like a normal family.

Their little family was as far from normal as it could possibly get. "We did yoga and then I drew a picture of us and then Mommy made lunch and then we watched a movie!" She exclaimed as Dick smiled at Zatanna. "I didn't know you did yoga Zee" he teased as she looked down with a light blush on her pale cheeks. 

When they got into the restaurant it began to pour even harder outside. "Table for three please" he said as the waitress took them to a booth next to a window. "I want to sit with Mommy" she said as Dick put her down. Zatanna sat on the edge in front of Dick as Mar'i sat beside her next to the window. The waitress gave Mar'i a children's menu and some crayons.

They both glanced over watching the little girl happily colour in the picture on the back of the children's menu. "What movie did you watch?" He asked curiously looking through his own menu. "Tangled" she said as he raised an eyebrow. That brought back so many memories for him. "That's your favourite movie" he said as she glanced up at him.
