Chapter 49

School, yeah she forgot she had to attend to that. Even if she felt like she were dying. The talk she had with Roquette was nice. But it didn't relieve her of all of the stress and pain she's been having. All of her friend's? They were her family. To have one of them dead just destroyed her inside. Megan sat by the window in the library. She's been needing some air anyways.

Its no use wasting her education money away. The light from outside sparkled in her eyes. It wasn't the ideal weather to be frolicking outside yet. However when it did become warm she would be outside everyday. A sigh escaped her lips as she turned her attention back to her textbook. Studying was key to getting good marks. Her eyes scanned the page as she read silently.

A yawn escaped her lips. Sleep was the last thing on her mind. When that happened her mind would only be plagued with nightmares. Her phone buzzed as she glanced over at it. To her surprise it was her brother. Immediately she picked it up. "Hey Gar" she said, the happiness clear in her voice. Megan hadn't spoken to him in what felt like forever. Being away from her Uncle and brother was hard. "Hey sis, how's University life?" he asked curiously.

"Homework Gar, what else?" she said with a light laugh.

It felt good to laugh. That was something she hadn't been doing very often. It made her perk up ever so slightly. "How've you been?" she asked now looking out the window. People outside were hurrying to get into someplace warm. It was bitter cold out there still. Which made it feel even better to get into someplace warm. "Good. Raven's been tutoring me in English. Reading and writing isn't really my strong suit. But she's amazing at it, the way she writes is so pretty" he gushed over the phone.

Megan let out a light laugh. She admired the way Garfield appreciated his girlfriend. He was such a bright kid even if he didn't know it. "Hey Gar?" she asked.

"Yeah?" he replied.

"Never stop being my little brother okay?" she whispered looking down to her lap.

There was a pause. "I wouldn't dream of it" he replied.

Once again they were at the hospital. The day before was Zatanna's funeral. Unfortunately Bart couldn't go because of his injuries. The hospital was keeping him there until they thought he was good enough. "How are you feeling?" Artemis asked curiously as her and Wally walked into the room. Bart held his arm up that had a cast on it. Looking between his arm and them.

He gave them an incredulous look. "Well other than my arm being broken, a few ribs broken, and bruised all over I'm crash" he said with a small smile. The swelling went down in his face but he was still black and blue. The two took a seat in the chairs provided. Wally snuck in some fast food. He always seemed to be hungry. Bart stared at him with the food. "Dude not crash" he said flatly.

All he had been eating was the food given to him by the hospital. It wasn't all that good. If anything he wanted a burger or a sandwich. "I'm so mad at that dude. Not for beating me but for making me waste a good sandwich" Bart said throwing his arms into the air. Both Artemis and Wally laughed. Through everything he was still able to joke. It made the two of them smile at that.

However they knew something that Bart didn't. That something would be here any minute now. She kept glancing over to the clock or to her phone. Just to check the time. "Dude give me on fry" Bart said holding his good hand out. The red head stared at him. "I'm only giving you one out of pity" he said with a smirk while handing one over. There was a knock at the door. It opened as someone popped their head inside.

Bart's eyes went wide with shock and joy. He couldn't form any words. "Your real right?" he asked as Jaime walked over. Reaching up he pinched his cheek. "Oh my god your here!" he yelled, he was like a kid on christmas. Artemis sat there with tears in her eyes. It was so genuinely sweet that it was killing her on the inside. If anything she adored the both of them. Who couldn't? "Does my face look bad? I mean I told the dude that I needed to receive kisses from you in this area" Bart said pointing to his bruised face.

Jaime shook his head with a small smile gracing his lips. "You look fine" he assured him before placing a kiss on his lips.

Was this awkward? No the awkward stage past them by now. However they didn't know where the stood. Was this a friend's with benefits sort of thing? Neither of them really knew which was the worst part. She walked into the gym. Luckily the University made it free so no membership was required. To her surprise she found Conner there.

Her eyes lingered on him for longer than a moment. Why did he have to be so hot? Its too bad she remembered nothing from that night. Taking a deep breath she walked over. "I spy with my little eye a farm boy in a city gym" she said as he looked up at her. Putting the weights down he ran a hand through his hair. "Wendy" he greeted with a smile. He didn't expect seeing her here this early in the morning.

Usually he was the first person here. Mostly because he was an early riser. However he never thought he would ever bump into her here. "I just came over here to say 'hey'. So if you don't mind I'm just going to go over there" she said as he nodded. His eyes were glued to the back of her as he watched her walk off. It was becoming increasingly distracting. Her being here should be illegal.

No one should be able to be distracted like he was. A growl escaped his lips as he walked up behind her. A sudden smile was etched onto her face. Turning around she stared up at him. "Yes Conner-" she could barely finish her sentence before he kissed her. And for once she didn't fight back against him.

A laugh escaped her lips. The three of them were playing a game. It was Melody's idea after all. Zatanna was laughing. Memories flashed through her head. Mar'i. She missed her and Dick so much. The young woman was laughing, laughing until she began crying. That caught the other two's attention. Tears fell from her eyes and they wouldn't stop. She sniffled. "I'm sorry, I just miss them so much" she cried out which was true.

All she wanted was to be with them? What did they think happened to her? Did they think she was dead? So many questions past through her head. There was a pain in her heart and it wouldn't go away. They were Her family and she was ripped away from them. "What was your boyfriend's name?" Harley asked, head tilted to the side. The woman was a little off but not in a bad way. Zatanna's seen and heard from Melody about what they've been through.

Some of it even worse than she had it when stuck with John. It made her feel bad for them. She could relate on that level. "Dick Grayson" she answered, tears clouding her blue eyes. Harley gasped. She knew who he was. Didn't everyone? "Your his girlfriend?" Harley asked with eyes as wide as saucers.

"Well he's not exactly my boyfriend but I still love him" she sniffled out.

"I would let that hunk of man take me out anyday" Harley said with a dreamy look in her eyes.

Melody sat there utterly confused. Which was probably for the better considering what she was talking about. "We'll get ya fixed up and walking before ya know it" Harley said nearly bouncing in her seat. She wiped her tears away and smiled. "Thanks" she mumbled before the clock began to ring. Harley gasped falling back off of the bed. The two girls giggling in response. "Shit I'm gonna be late!" she yelled before putting her heels on and running out the door.

"Where does she go?" Melody asked curiously.

"Your mother is going to get money to make sure you're safe because she loves you so much" Zatanna said as the girl smiled.

"Okay! Can we play that game again?" she asked tilting her head to the side.

Zatanna smiled. "Of course we can"
