Two years after they finished Highschool everyone gets accepted to Gotham University. Except all doesn't look as it seems. Soon their chaotic lives catch up to them. With new found children, kidnappings, and undercover agents they couldn't seem any...
Her eyes shot open, a sick feeling reminating within her stomach. Taking a deep breath she laid there, eyes trained on the dark ceiling above. Maybe this was just the stress getting to her? With him always disappearing and that disagreement they had. It was a lot for her to deal with at once. Especially since she was still in school and he wasn't. Rolling onto her side she tried to ignore the sickly feeling.
Perhaps this was because of some bad food she ate earlier? Reaching forward her fingers glided across his back. She could feel goosebumps rise along her skin. He was so warm, so welcoming. "My love, what are you doing awake?" he murmured turning around to face her. The colour of his eyes, seafoam, trained on her. His gaze didn't once leave hers. "I'm fine, I think the food earlier is disagreeing with me" she said as he pulled her close.
A kiss was pressed to the top of her head. "You've been ill for the past month, you should go see the doctor" he whispered against her skin. She shook her head tiredly. Sitting for countless hours at the infirmary wasn't going to do anything. She was being trained to be a doctor. If anything she should know what's wrong with herself.
Time past as her eyes shot open once again. This time it was difficult to ignore the sickly feeling. Breaking out of his comforting embrace she raced to the washroom. Collapsing to her knees she was hunched over the toilet bowl. Her throat burned as she began to vomit. It wasn't pleasant to look at or smell. She let her forehead rest against the cool ceramic edge. Taking deep breaths to try and calm her stomach.
A hand rested against her back as she turned her head. Eyes trailing up the body standing next to her to see his face. The light behind his head made him look like an angel. He was seemingly glowing. "I don't feel well" she said as he kneeled down next to her. Reaching forward he brought her body close to his. Head resting against his chest as he wrapped his arms securely around her. "It will be soon my love, it will be soon" he whispered before kissing the side of her head.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Remind me why I'm doing this again?" he asked.
The two were walking around the place. Going back and forth between the kitchen, the bedroom, and the television. "Because you love me" she said as he rolled his eyes. Currently he was carrying Artemis around on his back. The young woman was still quite under the weather. Even after being discharged two days ago. All of the drugs were still being flushed from her system.
Reaching forward she ran the back of her hand along the side of his face. It was scruffy, he hadn't shaved in two days. The stubble didn't look half bad but it always tickled when he would go to kiss her. "Where to?" he asked.
"Snacks and then television" she said as he sighed and nodded.
A part of him couldn't help but smile. Her arms were wrapped around his neck securely, head resting on his shoulder. Wally had no problem carrying her to and from places. The two heard scratching as their dog appeared from the hallway. Scurrying over and jumping up at his owners. "Brucely baby down" Artemis said, voice strict and demanding as she spoke.
The dog stopped bouncing around and sat there. Head cocked to the side as he watched his owners walk past him. Wally backed up and released her to sit on the counter. "Are you sure you'll be able to eat this?" he asked grabbing a box of cookies from the cupboard. Over the past two days she hadn't been eating much. Everything that made it down to her stomach would come back up.
Her food was hard to keep down. But that didn't make her any less hungry. "Just give me the damn cookies" she said reaching forward. Tossing the box to his other hand he held it up high. Even sitting on the counter she still couldn't reach. "Wally" she whined.
"Artemis" he said in a mocking tone.
Her stomach growled loudly, she was starving. Even if she couldn't keep anything down that didn't make her any less hungry. Reluctantly he gave her the box as she tore it open. Delicately reaching inside and picking out specific cookies. Artemis was rather picky when it came to picking her sweets. Raising her hand she popped one of the small cookies into her mouth.
Closing her eyes she savoured the chocolatey taste in her mouth. The expression on her face being a mix of pleasure and pure satisfaction. "Want one?" she asked after swallowing the grinded up cookie in her mouth. He stood there, leaning back against the counter. Hands braced on either side of him holding his weight. Curiosity flickered in his emerald eyes. The way he stared at her like some sort of dessert sent chills down her spine.
The cool feeling wracking her entire body and giving her goosebumps. "Your hair is the colour of the sun" he blurted out. A bright shade of red coloured her olive cheeks as she looked away. Her eyes now being drawn to the kitchen cupboard next to her. "That's real sweet wall-man now take me back to the couch so we can start our show" she said turning her head back to look at him.
"Okay" he breathed out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The worst part wasn't the screaming; the erratic breathing was the first sign she would show. While the young woman slept her mind would become invaded by nightmares. Such vile and scarring things would appear in her mind. She would be living through it as she slept. Usually the man next to her would be fast asleep. The girl down the hallway fast asleep as well. Leaving the woman to be sucked deeper and deeper into the darkened madness.
She would begin to whisper incoherent words. A cold sweat broke out making her pale skin glisten. Rolling over her body would become entangled in the sheets. Then there would finally be the screaming. A strangled cry for help. Within the first scream he would be awake. The lamp flickered on creating a newfound light in the darkness. Leaning over he would grasp her shoulder.
Pulling her shaking form up to lean against him. The door opened as his gaze fell upon the girl standing there. The look of worry resting on her features and the sadness in her eyes. "Its alright, go back to sleep" he said in a low voice. The door closed, her light footsteps trailing down the hallway. Looking down he tightened his grip around her. Murmuring sweet things into her ear.
When her eyes opened she pushed him away. Crawling to the other side of the bed and looking at him in pure fear. It took a moment for her to recognize where she was. The vulnerable state she was in, the tears falling down her cheeks like an endless waterfall, it was heartbreaking. "Zatanna it's okay, it was just a nightmare" he said before crawling over to her.
She broke down in another fit of tears. Leaning her head against his chest as she began to sob. "I thought I was back there, with him" she cried out. Hand reaching up as her fingers curled into the soft material of his shirt. "He's not here Zee, he can't hurt you. We'll get you help" he whispered before his lips were placed on top of her head. "Make the nightmare stop, please make them stop" she whispered, the pain in her voice sent chills through his body.
No, the screaming wasn't the worst part. The worst part was making a promise that he couldn't keep. "I'll make them go away, I promise" he whispered.
