~Asher~
When I woke up my wolf was in a state of high alert.
I was confused, the only thing I remembered was this intoxication smell that lingered. Pineapple, mint and morning dew. This wasn’t the first time I had this dream but usually I couldn’t remember anything. To get the scent was a new treat this morning.
I looked at the clock. ‘Fuck, four am. Are you kidding me?’
My wolf Quinn was beyond frantic. 'It was a dream Quinn, relax.' I tried to reassure him.
'Mate.' Was all he could say, usually he was a lot more verbal but lately he’s been pretty out of it.
I shook my head. 'Quinn, it wasn't real. It was a dream.' I tried harder to connect with him but it was no use.
'No, mate.' He pulled down the barrier between us and I could feel he was still antsy and on edge.
Sometimes I hated it that my wolf was one with a lot of feelings and bad social skills.'What mate Quinn? Does this mate have a name? Talk to me.' I commanded but it was no use. Quinn was a part of me and therefore immune to my commands.
Could he have a point? Did I really see my future mate through a dream? I shook the thought away. Clairvoyance was not a skill that ran in my family.Knowing I wouldn’t be able to sleep I got out of bed and took a long hot shower.
After that I walked downstairs and decided to get some work done. As Aaron had told us alpha Duke Caskan had sent me and invitation to negotiate certain matters. He told me he wanted to know how to manage a larger pack. That alone told me he wanted to expand.
I had already contacted the counsel and told them what eye witnesses had seen at Black Moon pack. They told me they would investigate the matter.
The situation with the New York pack changed a bit too. Due to a fatal sickness the old Alpha’s strength was withering. His son Harding Preston will take over in a short amount of time and he seemed to think a bit different about certain matters. I needed to visit him and talk to the recent and the future alpha. Because the future alpha wants to change a lot of important matters without consulting me or any of the other Alpha’s. God, how I hated politics. But it was a necessary part of my job description.
I was going through the stack of border patrol reports and realized Louis his shift was missing and decided to contact him immediately. ‘Louis, where are you and where is your patrol report? Your shift ended more than five hours ago.’ I mind linked him.
‘I’m sorry Alpha. We came across the new guy, his sister and their friend.’
‘You mean Aaron Lowell?’
It was silent for a while and finally Louis spoke. ‘Yeah, he’s a nice guy. We are already heading back. We helped them move and when we arrived there we helped with unloading and we just got breakfast in a nearby town.’
He was silent again. ‘Louis, did something happen? You sound off.’ I asked. Being an alpha also meant I was more responsive to my packs emotions and thoughts.
I could sense his hesitation but his excitement got the best of him. ‘Man, you should see Aarons sister, she’s absolutely stunning. Top class werewolf material, she’ll be in and out the territory for at least a couple of years, going to college in New York. And her smell, so pure and sweet. Not the average girly flower smell. She will have guys pining for her attention. I feel so protective of her. It’s super weird.’
I grinned at him. ‘I take it she declined your offer to date while she’s still looking for her mate.’
‘I didn’t ask, she doesn’t seem like the type who would do that to her future mate.’ He sounded disappointed none the less.
