~Mila~
I woke up screaming my lungs out; I was drenched in sweat and was lying in my own bed.
My breathing was labored and my neck hurt like crazy.
My bedroom door swung open and in ran my dad and Kyle. ‘What the hell is going on in here?’ My dad asked totally frantic.
Kyle looked at me. ‘Did you have a bad dream?’ He poured me a glass of water and placed it on my bedside table. Still disoriented I looked at my dad and him. ‘The worst.’ I was able to say. My breathing was still hitched. Kyle hopped onto bed.
‘What was it about?’ Still not convinced it was a dream I looked at my dad and said. ‘Werewolves.’
Instead of laughing like I usually would expect him to do he simply paled and I looked at him inquisitively. ‘Is there something you need to tell me dad?’
He shook his head. ‘Nope, only that your mum had nightmares like that too.’
Hearing him talking about my mother was weird, he never talked about her. Even though he wasn’t my real dad I always looked at him as such. I mean I was one when I met the guy, I had never known until he told me when mom passed away giving birth to Kyle.
I sat up straight. ‘What day is it?’
‘It’s Saturday.’ He said and took Kyle. ‘Come on kiddo, if your sister is up, why don’t we go make breakfast?’
Kyle squealed in delight. ‘Pancakes!’ He yelled, he wiggled out of dads hold and ran downstairs. I smiled because of his erratic behavior. Dad followed Kyle and closed the door on his way out.
I grabbed my phone and saw that it was a week before my birthday, there was still enough time.
I decided to put my dream to the test. I got up from bed and quickly got dressed. I dialed Aarons number I had memorized in my dream and within seconds someone picked up.
‘Hello?’ I heard his groggy voice and my heart skipped a beat. I involuntarily remembered him being torn to shreds and the hurt was agonizing.
‘Aaron it’s me.’ I said and I could feel his surprise.
‘I can’t talk right now, how did you get this number?’
‘You only have to listen and answer my questions. But you stay on the phone, get that?’ I ordered and I again could sense his confusion but he did as I said. ‘Is there anyone with you right now?’
‘Yes.’ My heart filled with empathy for what he has to go through right now. Being in a hostile environment and all.
‘Okay, can you get away from them?’
‘No.’ Fuck, I swore to myself but forced myself to stay calm.
‘Can they hear me?’
‘No.’ I sighed in relief.
‘Good, Aaron, don’t freak but I had the weirdest dream and I think I saw a glimpse of a possible future. That’s why I know your phone number. Something terrible is going to happen to you and….’ My voice cracked, I didn’t want to think about him or Asher getting killed.
‘I don’t understand.’ He said.
‘I don’t either but I need you to answer me. If you say nothing I know it’s true. Aaron?’ I took a deep breath and asked. ‘Are you a werewolf?’
The other end of the phone was so silent you could probably hear a pin drop.
It lasted for a couple of seconds and then I spoke again. ‘Aaron, I need you to go to Washington. You talk to no one, you pack your bags and leave right now. You need to stop Asher Woods from getting on the plane to Wisconsin and I need you to get out of this pack, pledge your allegiance to them. Do you understand?’ I couldn’t help but make it sound like an order.
