~Kate~
I was truly alone now. The walls around me were coated with silver, the intensity of it was so much that it weakened me without me even coming close to them.
Grace her strength was withering as well, they had drugged me with some kind of herb I didn’t know but it was making me feel dazed and I didn’t even know what time of the day it was or what day for that matter. The cold seeped through and I vaguely realized that this would be the first time since I got my wolf that I felt genuinely cold.
I wasn’t the only one on this cell block, every now and then I heard woman crying and some were even screaming to let them out, but when the guards came in everyone became quiet. Because when they came something bad always happened to the she wolf who was brought out.
I have seen them leaving angrily and feisty but they always came back bruised and broken. Not just their body but it seemed like someone had broken their spirit.
There were girls coming in on a daily basis some were even shacked up together in order to save space but I didn’t get a room mate although it seemed I had been here for ages.
It was always dark in the prison, the only light came from two old flickering light bulbs in the hallway but nobody wanted to look through the bars.
Sometimes a girl broke down crying and by the agonizing pitch in her voice I could hear that her mate had been taken from her, those were the screams I couldn’t get out of my mind and those were the ones who haunted me in my dreams. The thought that they could do that to Carmine as well and I would be the one with a gaping hollow in my chest was just to agonizing to think about.
The guards seemed to know exactly what scream to listen for because the moment that happened the she wolf in question was taken out of her cell and moved to another hallway where I assumed would be where they kept the unmated she wolves. That was a place I was dreading to go. Tormented and ear piercing screams and sobs always came from that hallway and I had heard whispers that the guards and other wolves took advantage of the woman who where in there. To break them so that they could be sold off to the highest bidder.
Every moment of the day I heard women pray to the moon goddess, a figure who was their patron and who was suppose to protect them from evil and harm.
She was unknown to me so I couldn’t draw strength from her. I did pray to whomever was out there who might want to listen to make sure that my friends and family would be safe.
There was a woman across from me who kept looking at me and although talking was strictly forbidden she whispered to me. ‘You are too young to be in here sweetie, did you find your mate that soon? The moongoddess must love you very much to bless you with your mate. I’m Ava.’
‘Kate.’ I introduced myself and looked at her. ‘You seem pretty at ease.’
‘Well, while I’m here I might as well get comfortable while I still can. You see what they do to those poor girls, I don’t think they will come after me. I’m older than most of you here plus that my rank is that high that my Orpheus will stop doing what they ask the moment they hurt me and he is alpha of the Eastvalley pack so they will want to keep me alive and well. What is your rank dear?’
‘I’m future Luna of the lunar Sky pack.’ I confessed to this friendly looking woman.
‘Then you will probably have nothing to fear, although you are an exceptionally pretty young lady. It’s a shame you are mated to Harding, he is not the best one to have as a mate.’
‘He would be my half brother.’ I said, I didn’t want her to think I had any romantic associations to the man who ordered the attack on my mate.
