Thirteen

Ok... here we go. O^O Probably another short chapter :-)

We stood outside the school, waiting for our parents. Josh was nudging Ethan. Em was walking out of her football practice as well. Ethan blushed.

"Mate! Talk to her!" Tobi whispered in excitement. Ethan cleared his throat and stepped forward. 

"Em!" She turned our way, quickly wiping a bit of sweat off of her face, and waved. 

Ethan jogged over to her. 

"I didn't know he could run that quick," JJ mumbled and we all laughed. 

All of us peered over at them. Ethan grabbed at his arms and smiled. 

"How about that FIFA match?"

Em grinned and nodded, "it's on, Ethan!"

He dragged her over to us, and we started to applaud. I grinned. 

"Atta boy!" JJ screamed, patting him on the back. I did a little whistle. Josh slapped Ethan on the bum. 

"Oi! I'm leaving you!" Ethan's mum pulled up at the front of the school. Em followed him into the car, his mother giving them a crazy look. 

We waved as they left. Then, Manny, Tobi, and Josh's ride arrived. That left JJ, Cal, and I. Cal was sitting on the curb, trying to balance a football on his head. JJ snorted a bit, watching him fail. I just stared, embarrassed. Suddenly, I gain the courage to walk up to him. 

"Hey, Cal," I begin shakily, looking back I see JJ giving me an odd look, "I'm really sorry, but I can't-"

"My mum's here," he states without emotion, brushing me off. A car was parked across the street. Cal shuffled across the street. It was pretty empty, especially for the time of day. Then, he dropped his ball, and it started to roll away. Trying to catch it before it came back our way, Cal ran back onto the road. A bus started plowing his way. His ball started to roll to it. I stood there trying to tell Cal to get out of the way. My voice wouldn't work. 

And in slow motion, he stopped moving, staring at the colossal bus. Cal looked to me in shock. It didn't stop. It kept moving. Inching closer, and closer, while I stood there. 

And I just watched.
