I sprinted to the door and slammed it shut. I breathed heavily, and slowly sunk to the ground. Em? Was pregnant? Out of all the people in the world it was people like her that got the worst fates. The best people. Instead of listening to any more of the conversation, I put on my headphones and blasted music in my ears. All I had to do was wait for Em to leave.

So I waited, and waited, and waited. I stared at the wall, trying not to think of how rash Ethan's reaction was going to be. After what i assumed was 30 minutes, I checked my phone to see what time it was. 1:45. It had been two hours. Maybe it was time to go check on him.

I slowly opened my door and creeped to his room, where I guessed he would be. I was right, since I heard his heavy breathing.

"Ethan?" I called and knocked on his door.

"Em?" He choked out.

"No, it's Simon."

"Oh," I couldn't tell if he was disappointed or not, "come in."

I slipped into his room and found him laying on the ground, holding a small black box.

"How much did you hear?" Ethan asked sternly. I stared for a moment, though he knew me well enough to understand I'm too curious to not eavesdrop.

"Enough," I say, "and I'm so sorry I shouldn't have listened in-"

Ethan shook his head a bit defeated, "well, at least it's one less person to tell." He chuckled sadly.

"I mean, how did this happen? If she was with another guy I'm going to go to her house and KILL her personally-"

"No."

"Oh," I adjusted myself awkwardly, "that's fine. That's better actually." Not the type of chat I wanted today.

"Simon, can you just not let this get out until Em and I figure out what we're doing about this?"

I nodded strongly, "of course."

He shivered a bit, "oh my God, Simon."

"What?"

He raised the small box examining it, "I was going to marry her."

"WHAT?" I shouted, "AND YOU DIDN'T TELL ME?"

"Well... I didn't know when I was going to do it.. or how... I was obviously going to tell you before it happened."

"That's amazing!"

Ethan shrugged, "I don't know if I should still do it anymore though."

"Why the hell not? Haven't you two thought of having kids?"

"Yeah... but isn't it too soon?" He asked worriedly, "she might want to get rid of the kid! Simon! I don't want to get rid of the child!"

"Em would never do that Ethan. You know her well enough that she would never. You have to ask."

He stared at me for a second before putting on a big grin, "you know what? The next time I see her I'm going to pop the question."

"Yes mate," we high fives.

"It has to be romantic. She loves big occasions. I better do it in front of the West Ham stadium or something or at a game! Simon!" Ethan squealed like a little child on Christmas.

I laughed and nodded along as I helped him plan the best proposal you would ever see.
