It was a cold December afternoon, and Valerie had taken advantage of her free period by completing her potions essay on polyjuice potion.

"Just one more paragraph." She thought aloud.
"One more?" She heard Sirius say.
"I've got about 20 more."
"So basically you haven't even started."
"Yes I have, I wrote my name."

Valerie rolled her eyes and set her quill down, sighing in exhaustion.
"I can finish this later." She said eyeing Sirius.
"Care to join me on a stroll through Hogsmede?"
"Sure." Sirius said smirking.

Snow covered the many shops of the town. Icicles hung off the roofs, and snowflakes lightly fell from the grey sky.
"It's freezing." Sirius complained, tightening the grip of his scarf.
"Well you didn't have to come."
"I wanted to."
"I'd rather be freezing my arse off with you, then sitting in front of a fire alone."
Valerie's cheeks turned a shade of dark pink, but it wasn't noticeable due to fact that her cheeks were already pink from the cold.

"Hey, have you been talking to Marianne lately?"
"Not really, she's been spending an awful lot of time with Peter."
At this, Sirius raised his eyebrows in suppose. "Peter?"
"Peter." Valerie answered.
"A girl like that with Peter."
"A girl like what?"
"Well... She's pretty good looking, and Peter's well... Peter."
"Pretty good looking?" Valerie scoffed.
"Her."
"Is someone jealous?" A smile creeping up on face as he said this.
"Oh don't be ridiculous, me jealous of her?"
"I thought you liked Marianne, why a sudden change of heart?"
"I never said I didn't still like her."
"Then why-"
Valerie shot him a look that silenced him immediately.

"I think I'll go back to the castle, finish my essay."
"Okay." Sirius bit his lip.
"I'll stay here."
"I thought you said it was too cold."
"I think it warmed up a bit."
"Whatever." She said shaking her head.
"You ever going to tell me why you kept your animagus abilities a secret?"
"In due time, Ms. Scott."
Valerie raised a suggestive finger as she walked back to the castle.
Sirius retuned the gesture with a wide grin, as he walked into the Three Broomsticks.

"And...done." Valerie exclaimed, putting her hair into a ponytail.
"Tired?" Questioned Remus.
"Not as tired as you." She said eyeing his face.
His usual scars appeared to be reopened, looking worse than they've ever looked. His eyes were red and irritated; overall, he looked like he was severely ill.
"Yes, well this the price to pay for being a werewolf." He said grimly.
Valerie looked at him with soft eyes, a feeling of pity bubbled in her stomach.
"I really am sorry Remus."
"If I had known-"
"Stop. It's not your fault."
"Why didn't Sirius tell me?"
He looked at her, biting his lip.
"Why didn't he tell me?" She repeated firmly.
"That's not for me tell."
"I know."
Remus gave her a look of confusion.
"It's about you. I know they became animagi for you."
Remus' face paled and guilt spread across his tattered face.
"Well then there's your answer."
"No, it's not even remotely my answer."
"Valerie-"
"He didn't want me to know, because he didn't want me to get caught up with you when your a werewolf."
"He thought it would be too dangerous me didn't he?"
"And James, he thought the same for Lily."
"I agreed with them." Remus finally said.
"Well they were wrong, and so were you."
Remus raised his eyebrows. "What?"
"Lily and I, we're not fragile, we don't need to be protected." She said matter-of-factly.
Remus merely nodded his head.
"We just wanted to keep you safe. I couldn't live with myself if I hurt either one of you."
"You would never hurt us, not intentionally."
"It doesn't matter, I still could."
"But you won't."
"Won't?"
"Yes, you won't hurt us the next time you transform."
"Yes, because you won't be there." He stated firmly.
"Oh but we will."
