Poem 29

I stood up against the things you would do

You left and now I say "I release you"

I release the pain you used on me

I release the idea of what I thought we could be

I'm done giving you the power to cause me pain

You are not allowed to hurt me ever again

I let you walk on me every day

And you left when I said "That's not okay"

Was I not worth it in your eyes?

Was everything I thought I made you feel a bunch of lies?

Am I worthless to you? Is that how you feel?

Meanwhile I thought we had something real

But you don't love me, never have, never will

And I need to move on to bigger and better thrills

So to you I say my final goodbye

And throughout my life, I'll never wonder why

Why you chose to make such a fatal mistake

Why it was my heart, you loved to break

We'll move on, you'll tell this story as the guy who cared too much

And I'll tell it as the guy who cared not enough

Yours will make you sound like a super hero

Mine will make you out to be a super zero

I'll laugh and smile with all of my friends

Face this pain then let it come to an end

My suffering is over, I release you

You can no longer hurt me with the things you loved to do
