Poem 45

Yesterday was a very important day

Despite what anyone had dared to say.

I'm not going to confront you, because you're not worth my time.

But I do have some people I'd like to address with this rhyme.

To one girl in particular - without trying to start a fight

I'd like to say I found a curious little conversation that occurred just last night.

Now it wasn't your name that shocked me all that much

Because I was well aware that you had chosen to stay in touch.

It was none of my business and for reading it at all, I'd like to say sorry.

But just as you were doing, I wanted to check up on you given our history.

So of course, you can imagine my surprise when I read the small chat

Where you asked my friend where my relationship was at.

So to answer your indirect question about my life,

That "parasite" has plans to make me his wife.

I'm not going to defend him, though I could if need be,

But I am happy with him and he's happy with me.

I'm not going to romanticize what happened, I've done that enough;

I'll humbly admit that the relationship's been rough

And of course you won't believe me when I tell you

But he's been honest, fixing what he chose to do.

I didn't appreciate your comment about him being a parasite

But it's America, you have every right. 

But our relationship is honestly going great.

Every Friday, there's a Skype date.

We talk out our issues, rather than keeping our mouths uncomfortably shut

And we help each other out of bad ruts.

Yesterday was his birthday. But of course you knew,

Because at this time last year, I wasn't the girl he was spending it with, it was you.

But yesterday was also our one month anniversary.

So if you read this, let your boyfriend see

Because you chose to send him after me for choosing to be with him again

"I doubt you'll last a month." Thanks, dude. You were such a good friend.

I won't say I miss you, I'm doing just fine.

But you asked a question and I responded in a way that's mine.

Of course you'll laugh at my response, because that's just you,

But what else was I supposed to do?

You asked about my life on a very important day

I chose to respond, but don't think this is a game that I want to play.

After all, our friendship stupidly died in vain.  

So keep your distance and I'll happily do the same.

Please don't inquire about me anymore.

My life is none of your business, don't open that door.

You left out of spite and I frankly didn't care.

Needless to stay I stopped wishing you were there.

I appreciate the concern, though I doubt it was concern at all.

But as disappointing as it is, my relationship has yet to fall

Apart the way those lost friends had assumed it would

Our relationship is thriving, as it should.

So please stop asking about things that don't involve you

Because all you'll do is start drama, like you always do.

I'll mind mine if you mind yours

But frankly dealing with you is an unwanted chore.
