I'll Be Back ~ Riley+Farkle

The Story Behind It All

my name is Farkle Minkus, and this is my... I don't even know what to call it... first romance? Okay, we'll call it that. My first romance was with a girl named Riley Matthews, God she was beautiful. Let me tell you how we were.

Our parents knew each other from when they were younger. Me and Riley met when we were babies, she was like my best friend. I didn't like her straight away, because I was a fucking baby, I didn't know anything.

As time passed, we grew closer as friends and we developed a very strong friendship. The 'romance' started in 5th grade and one of our school dances. Let me show you how that went...

{flashback}

"Farkle?" Riley said as I turned around.

"Yes Sunshine?" I called her Sunshine a lot when we were younger.

"Do you... want to dance?" She asked as a slow song came on.

"What... to this? It sounds boring and plus I can't do it on my own-"

"With me, Farkle. Dance... with me?" She said as I nodded and she grabbed my hand and pulled me onto the centre of the dance floor.

"I don't know how to dance like this, Riles."

"I'll teach you." She said as she smiled and put my right hand on her right hip and she held my left hand in the air and we began to dance. At first we just laughed because I was so bad at it but she was like a ballroom dancer, I knew how much she loved to dance. Then I got better and we looked at each other for a while, her eyes lit up like the stars, her smile looked smitten. I knew in that moment that I liked her. She looked wonderful.

So that's that. But then after that, things changed. We would always hold hands and hug each other, and do other stuff that little kids would do, if that makes sense. People would always think we were a couple, but we wasn't, we never got the chance. And this was why...

In sixth grade, my mother got a massive job opportunity in England. She took it straight away without telling my dad. They got into a massive fight and they were on the verge of divorce. She had to start work in a month, so in that month I spent every moment with Riley and all my other friends; Maya, Lucas, Zay, Smackle, Billy and Sarah. That was our main friendship group back in those days.

So then my mum and dad decided it would be best to split up because my dad couldn't leave his job and apparently their relationship was bad anyway... and I couldn't choose to stay, my mother told me I had to go with her... so that meant saying goodbye to my best friend... oh how I hated that day when I said goodbye...

{flashback}

"Farkle I'm going to miss you so much!" Sarah said as she hugged me.

"Farkle... Just remember, always wear those turtlenecks." Billy said as I nodded.

"Don't lose your scientific abilities, Farkle." Smackle said as we high-fived, she didn't like hugs that much.

"I'm going to miss you buddy." Zay said.

"Me too." Lucas said as I hugged both Zay and Lucas.

"Goodbye, Farkle." Maya said as a tear rolled down her face. When it came to Riley, I put my head down.

"Farkle... look at me please." She said as I couldn't, I started crying. Everyone walked away, and it was just me and Riley. "Farkle!" She said as she lifted my head. "You can't ignore me forever Turtleneck." She said as I laughed.

"This isn't goodbye for us, Riley."

"But it is..." she said as I hugged her.

"I love you, Farkle." When she said that, I stumbled for words but I luckily said something.

"And I love you." I said as she pulled out my hug.

"Okay, I got to go, bye Farkle." Riley said as she kissed my cheek and walked away.

I shouted "I promise you Riley, I'll be back." She turned around and started crying and ran away. I couldn't stop crying...
