The Follower

"Oh my god..." I said as I opened the door.

"Hey Farkle, it's been a long time." It was Smackle.

"What are you doing here?" I asked. "How do you know where I live?"

"I followed Riley here, I've been following everyone for the past couple months." She says as it starts to rain.

"Get in before anyone sees you." I say as I pull Smackle in and take her into our spare room. "What happened to you?"

"Has anyone told you the story?" Smackle says.

"Some of it."

"Well, I got into an arguement with Sarah, I can't remember what it was about, but it was pretty bad. I went home that day and my parents said that we were moving back to the Philippines, I didn't want to leave, I didn't want to just go and say goodbye like you did." She said as I sat next to her. "I ran straight to Riley's house because we was all going to meet at hers for Movie Night, and I told them what happened and obviously Sarah didn't care, so we argued a bit and I left, I didn't go home, I just got on the nearest train to take me anywhere, I had money anyways so, why not."

"You could have told them you was going to leave and they could have came and looked for you." I said as she looked at me.

"They would have come looking for me if they cared, but obviously they didn't." Smackle said, but still something didn't seem right.

"But how are you here? How are you... alive?" I asked.

"I knew there was a homeless shelter in NY, so I went there and I paid them 50 dollars so I can stay for two months, I made a lot of friends." She said as she looked at the floor. "After my two months were up, I was forced to leave, at this point it was September and I had to go to High School but my parents had already gone to the Phillipines and I had no clothes or anything, so a friend who I shared a room with, her name was Chai. She offered for me to live on the streets with her, so I did, and that's who I was with for two years, we done everything, stole food, all the rebellious stuff." She said.

"So then what happened?" I said.

"We were walking down this street and she got kidnapped and taken in a van, for some reason they didn't take me but I ran after her but the van had got away, I was lonely, scared, only had a bit of food." She said. "Then I saw Maya walking down the street, I pulled my hood up and ever since I've been following everyone for a couple months. You're the first person I've spoken too since Chai."

"Wow, Smackle. That is one story." I said. "You need to see everyone-"

"I can't! Don't you see Farkle, I left them. I abandoned them for two years." She said as she started to cry. "I can't see them again, at least not now."

"Okay. But you can't stay here, you're going to have to stay on the-"

"Gee, Farkle. I wasn't asking to stay here, I needed to talk to someone. You're my only source of communication." She said as she stood up. "Don't tell anyone you saw me."

"I won't." I said as I watched her walk out my house and walk down a street. At this moment I rang Riley.

Farkle:
Riley?

Riley:
Farkle... I'm busy-

Farkle:
I need to talk to you... Now!

Riley:
Farkle is this about the kiss or-

Farkle:
Well we do need to speak about that but it's not that...

Riley:
Then what is it?

Farkle:
I... It's Smackle!

Riley:
What's happened?

Farkle:
She came to my house, Riley. She's been following you... Riley, can I come over? I'll tell you the rest...

Riley went silent and I heard her crying a little.

Farkle:
Riley don't cry please...

Riley:
Are you sure it was her?

Farkle:
She hasn't changed one bit... apart from that she smells and looks a little rough but she still looks the same.

Riley:
Oh no...

Farkle:
She told me the whole story, I need to tell you guys. But she told me not to tell you but I have too.

There was a bit of silence as Riley cried.

Farkle:
She doesn't want to see you guys yet...

Riley:
Why? Did we-

Farkle:
She said she feels like she can't see you guys after she abandoned you. She's really sorry, Riley.

Riley:
I would forgive her but I don't think Maya will... Maya might take this a bit too much to heart, and Zay probably will...

Farkle:
Why Zay?

Riley:
Don't you remember? He liked her until she left...

Farkle:
What? I didn't know that?

Riley:
Oh... Well now you do...

This means that the triangle could be solved... Only if Smackle comes back... oh my god...
