The portrait hole to the Gryffindor's common room opened with a bang, as a very disgruntled Hufflepuff entered. The Fat Lady was to be heard ranting as the portrait closed once more.
A very quiet common room started at Andre but he ignored this, making his way to his friends who were playing Wizard's Chess.
He flopped right besides James.
"Hello." James said, not looking away from the chess board. "Knight to E5." He commanded.
"Why are you here again?" Nadine, Andre's cousin asked, her eyes never leaving the chess board as well. "Rook to A4"
"He's here, too." Andre chose to say, pointing at James who was a Slytherin.
"We were working on the prefect's patrol schedule." Nadine said as they watched her rook pummeled one of James' pawns. "We're taking a break right now."
"So." James said as he looked over his chess pieces, thinking hard. "You and Pressman had another row?" He asked, all attention still on the game.
"No." Andre said in a tone that clearly says James had pinpoint the problem.
"What happened now?" Nadine asked and gave her cousin a glance. "Not a very enjoyable Quidditch practice?" She asked as James made his move.
"She's just so... so... insufferable!" Andre said, outraged. "She's such a show off! And her fanboys from all houses. What if one of them is actually a spy?" He groaned. "It drives me insane how they even have a song for her. And everytime she scores a goal, they'd start yelling her name!"
"Yeah, mate. So you've said." James said as he watched his knight attack Nadine's rook.
"Are you even listening to me??" Andre asked, glaring at the two.
"Right now, not much. But we've listened enough to say the right words." Nadine said, grinning as she added to James. "Checkmate."
James groaned and his king surrendered. With their game ending, they had both turn their attention to the fuming Hufflepuff. Andre is normally a laid-back guy and never really lash like this in normal days. But that Yassi Pressman, another Hufflepuff, have always had this effect on him.
"When will your rivalry end, seriously." Nadine commented.
"It's not rivalry! She's just plain annoying!" Andre said.
James sighed and started counting on his hand. "Every year the two of you compare test results, the two of you compare housepoints you contribute. Third year, you had a bet of who will be prefect between the two of you, turns out it would be the two of you. Fourth year, the bet was about being Quidditch captain - in which you've won. Fifth year, it's about OWLs. Now what? MVP for Quidditch? And you're actually the one who always say the house rivalry between Slytherin and Gryffindor is ridiculous. You two are even in the same house, you filthy hypocrite." James said with a laugh.
"Why don't you just tell her you fancy her?" Nadine asked to which Andre spluttered.
"A- I don't fancy her! You've completely miss the point!" Andre said, turning red.
James and Nadine shared exasperated look.
"Well, it looks like you do... You get along well with her until second year, before that bloke Bret Jackson, asked her out." Nadine said.
"Get over it mate, they've broken up ages ago." James added.
"It's not about that!" Andre said, looking flustered.
"By the way, about the patrol duties. Would you survive one night patrol with her? You're the only two available on the 20th. I can go with you, Andre, but I want to catch up on sleep. NEWT review is really stressing." Nadine said, effectively changing the subject.
"I can go with Pressman." James offered, looking at Nadine worriedly.
"That'll mean three consecutive night patrols for you." Nadine told James.
"It's okay." Andre said, sighing. "I'll go."
Nadine grinned at him gratefully.
"Excuse me." A voice said. They turned to see it was Ylona Garcia, a Gryffindor 3rd year.
"Yassi Pressman is calling for you, Andre." She said. "She's waiting outside."
Andre groaned and stood up, making his way out.
When the portrait opened, they could hear Yassi's angry voice. "DID YOU HAVE TO HIT THE BLUDGER TOWARDS THE BLEACHER TO THOSE BOYS????"
James and Nadine laughed at the image. Seems Yassi's fanboys finally snapped Andre.
"Bet you a galleon they'll start going out after their patrol." James said, looking at Nadine.
"You're on. I bet they'll start snogging out of anger and start going out today." Nadine said.
When dinner came, Andre was red, Nadine was grinning and James was muttering as he held out a galleon to Nadine.
